As I'm getting a week away golfing with the lads to Portugal my wife is heading to Vegas in August with my Daughter (30).

They are staying in the New York New York hotel neither have been before.

Any musts do's or good advise for the trip?

Try the rollercoaster on the top of the Stratosphere if they are into that sort of thing. Watch the Bellagio fountains, gondola ride in the Venetian. I hired a car and drove out to the Hoover dam then up the side of Lake Mead and back into Vegas through the valley of fire which was a good day out.

Go to the MGM Grand hotel lobby - fish tanks for pillars (loads of seahorses) and real live lions above your head. There's usually an exhibition on there, last time I was in Vegas it was a fantastic Star Trek exhibition - they do these things amazingly well.

Tell her to watch The Hangover film. Kenny :smirk:

There'll be loads of shows to choose from. Check the listings sites online, if there's a particular act they might want to see then I'd advise booking tickets early. If they're happy to take pot luck and pay a fair bit less for tickets then wait til they're there. Any of the Cirque de Soleil shows will be spectacular but there's plenty of variety.

Good choice of hotel to stay, that's where I stayed last time I was in Vegas. The Irish bar in New York New York serves some good food and drink. If they like Italian food then they need to go to Batista's Hole in the wall. $25 for a 4 course meal with unlimited wine. Tell them to go to the shopping precinct in Cesers Palace, that's a cool place. The outlets are cheap as hell for some bargain shopping.

We done the gun range first time we went and it was a good price, went to do it again last year and it was way more expensive. There's one company that comes in a big humvee and picks you up at your hotel on the strip and takes you to the range. Can't remember what it's called though.

I'm going to Las Vegas in June as part of a tour of America , not for the gambling but a stopover to see the Grand Canyon.

Im still undecided the best way to tour the Grand Canyon, would like to do the helicopter tour but after researching on the Grand Canyon forum with good advice from local experts they say the helicopter tours only go to the West Rim which is not as spectacular as the South Rim.

The bus tours from Vegas take 15 hours with 3/4 hours at the South Rim,pick up and drop off at your hotel. A long day but this might have to be the option for me as I won't be driving.

One option is to hire a car in Vegas and drive to the Canyon with a overnight stopover.

Done a bit more research, you can get a Canyon Dream Air and Land tour which starts with a 40 min. flight to the South Rim then a 30 min. Helicopter ride then a mini-coach tour of the Canyon, flight back to Vegas with a duration of 7 1/2 hours for the trip, ideal for me with a limited time in Vegas.

I think it is worth looking at all the lobbies as they are fairly different. Some are 'classic' (outdated I would say) like the mirage or MGM, some are modern like the Planet Hollywood, and some are just must see ones like Cesar's, Bellagio and Palazzo. Just start at the Luxor and work yourself up and down the strip. A few hotels are interconnected anyway.

Go on top of the Stratosphere to have a look at Vegas at night.

See a (magic) show or two.

Put down a dollar or 5 on a table, put a few 'coins' (ticket) into a slot machine. The New York has a massively big one for the token draw.

Wander a hotel based shopping mall, Venetian or PH were good ones.

And all the stuff described by others. I didn't do the Grand Canyon back then as the mates I went with did it by car, and I didn't want to do that the day before the Strip at Night.

Girlie stuff,

taxi to Freemont street in the evening. They will wet there knickers laughing.

Dig deep in yer pockets seeing as you are having a bladder session in Portugal and treat them to a champagne breakfast in the Grand Canyon, courtesy of Maverick helicopters. The ride back to Vegas over Freemont street and the back of the strip is fantastic.
