Me and my brother-in-law entered for £50 each, first time we have done anything like it. Prize was 4 nights in Vegas and 3 rounds on Bali Hai. It was meant to be playing against pairs no further than 30 minutes from your home club.

First round we had a bye, second round we were drawn against a father and son team from Bedfordshire. Now considering we are based in Cardiff I think you would probably have to be hoofing it to make the 170 (one way) in 30 minutes or less. We ended up forgoing our home advantage and playing at Bearwood Lakes (the father sorted it for free!), stunning course and we had already got or £50 worth by just playing there. The fact we won the match made it even more special! We emailed LVC and they thanked us for making the effort to travel and thanked us for giving up the home advantage.

On to round 3, finally we got the details of the next match, we had been drawn away against a team in Kent!! A 7 hour round trip! We sent numerous emails complaining and they kept telling us they would sort it out, that was until they went completely silent. We ended up making the trip as we had a free round at a marriott and stayed and played at Lingfield Park as well as the match. Needless to say we lost the match by a point, which considering the distance traveled and no opportunity to play the course prior we could.

Looking at it now there seems to Vegas element at all, people are complaining that there is no hotel booked and no tee slots for the days advertised.

Just wondered if anyone else had been caught up in this?

Yep, something smells fishy for sure!! Do you think the whole things is an out and out scam?

On the other hand I love Bearwood!

It is really hard to tell because they are listed among the competitions on the R&A website. It could be that they didn't start out as a scam but things just haven't turned out as they wanted, maybe they didn't have the expected take up. We were told that we had been drawn away because the uptake in South Wales was so large which doesn't really make any sense.

Bearwood is one of the best courses I have ever played, despite the starter taking great pleasure in telling us the greens were running at around 12 and me putting back off the green from 7ft on the 2nd!

They have been trading since 2011 and are high risk but any company that has not filed 3 years accounts is. They changed there company name last year, pretty random as its only a trading name. Nothing too strange with anything here though a big lack of information as you would expect from a young company. They are still trading.

Well hopefully for those still involved they are just a bit lacking with their organisational skills and the comp hasn't been scrapped. Like I say we only payed £50 and got to free rounds of golf out of that but the official price was £100pp, you would be disappointed to have paid that and not have Vegas at the end of it.

All looks a bit contrived and made up to me. Free golf for the visitor at the other guy's home course? Can't see my general manager agreeing to that! Sounds like marketing gumph to get people to sign up, organisers excuses to follow later.

I would say avoid with a capital A.
