Lancaster/Preston next Friday - suggestions please

Wife and I are playing St Andrews week after next and are travelling up next Friday. Will probably looks to stay over night around Preston or Lancaster on Friday night.

Any suggestions for somewhere please we could play on Friday afternoon within striking distance of the M6 would be appreciated.

Preston GC and Lancaster GC (probably both are top 5-6 inland courses in the NW), and not far from the M6.

Lancaster. Course is in great nick atm. Greens are really quickening up, and we're hosting the Amateur Champs soon so the greenkeepers are really putting the work in to get the course looking top notch. Well worth a go.

Lancaster or Preston are your best bets. Slightly out of the way gives you Pleasington and a bit further up is Carlisle (not played there for about 2 years though).

Personally I'd aim for Lancaster, decent night out as well for a few beers before you travel up to St Andrews.

Tip: If you stay in Lancaster or Preston, go for room only and stop off at Tebay (Westmoreland) services for breakfast about 45 mins up the M6. Best service station food I've ever had.

Watch out for some of the pubs in Lancaster, the bar staff should have a mask on an a pistol in hand. If you've got a student card it helps with the prices!!!

PS I'm there in first week of June, can anyone get us in at Lancaster GC?

I haven't had a student card since 1986!

And I am used to London prices....now that is robbery on a grand scale!
