Gong for a wee holiday to the Lakes soon. Doesn't look like golf country but can anyone recommend any courses in the Windermere vicinty? I know there's a course at Windermere but is it any good? Something interesting within an hour of Windermere would do, doesn't need to be a long course.

Ulverston is a great parkland course 30 mins away, but my favourites are Seascale 1.5 hours away and Silloth 2 hours both proper links. Play Eskdale if you get the chance in summer (closed winter) 1.5 hours. Have not played Windermere yet but hear that it is good.

We've got a caravan up there so I've played a few courses round that way - Windermere, Silverdale and Grange-over-sands. I'd certainly recommended Windermere and Silverdale - they aren't the longest courses, but are both pretty challenging in parts. If you only get chance to play one I think Silverdale slightly edges it for me (and it's slightly cheaper as well), but I doubt you'd be disappointed with either.

If you're looking to play a few courses you can get a Lakeland Golf Ticket at a decent price:

If you play Silverdale can you have a look out for the 4 balls I lost there last time I played?! ;)

Windermere is a good little course and well worth playing as it's a bit different, tricky, good greens and no bunkers !!
Others I'd recommend are Kirkby Lonsdale, Ulverston, Penrith and just south of the Lakes probably best of the bunch is Lancaster.

Windermere is an enjoyable course, i think they liken it to a mini Gleneagles on their website. I wouldn't go that far but it is picturesque.
look out for the par 3 6th. Not many holes have a view like that!
