I play in a club without a ladies section so know very few lady golfers. My Other Half also goes on society days (not in the club). I once joined them and had (I thought) a pleasant day out. However, MOH was afterwards asked not to bring me along again! Apparently it wasn't my golf (which is no worse than most society players and better than a lot) but they felt their style was cramped in the post-golf bar-room banter (?)
Needless to say I was incandescent at the time, and although MOH was sympathetic/apologetic he still goes off with these guys from time to time and I still get hacked off that I'm left behind.
Are these guys are from the stone age, or should i 'know my place'?

Interesting comments. It's a long time since I've been a member of a club in the UK and I've lost touch somewhat. I do remember, however, wondering why the ladies used to put up with being second class members in return for paying maybe ten per cent less than the men. The committee were all men with the lady captain sitting as a token female representative. Is it still the same?
As far as the men's golf day with one of the wives tagging along? I'd say you and your husband did make a mistake.

I wouldn’t say it's a case of knowing your place, but maybe the society (like mine) is more of a lads day out / drinking session than a unisex golf trip??

Is it true the the origin of the word GOLF is an acronym for Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden, or isit an urban myth.

I guess golf is still in the past just like cricket club membership.

I play golf with my wife all the time and she is can more than hold her own when out with the lads. She is, however, concious of the purpose of the day out and appreciates that if the intention is to have a lads day out away from the wives then she should not ask to come.

Feel for you AliB, you should come way ahead of your husbands mates and he should bin them as friends if they are that rude as to ask him to leave you behind. I so wished ny wife played golf, alas she does not and I have to hang about in art galleries and shops pretending to be excited about pottery when I could be on the links. He should be playing golf with you, not those Society knobs.
Trade him in for a new fella!

thanks guys for your verdicts.
I can see that a lad's day out is a lad's day out adn there are times (off the course) when I would leave MOH at home. What riled me was that he asked permission for me to go in the first place. Someone obviously took the wrong decision.
Have considered trading him in for a newer model, but he has his uses!
