What are the thoughts of the ladies on this forum regarding Direct Golf. Called in there with the girlfriend and they do not stock anything for ladies now, including clothing. Spoke to the manager about this and Direct Golf are not interested in the ladies market anymore as they do not make enough money from it. Then yesterday the latest brochure comes through and surprise surprise one set of those starter packs in there and 2 pairs of shoes.

Is this really the way things are going in golf, are the ladies on here finding it harder and harder to go and try new stuff out?

Never been something i've looked at to be honest mate, but i remember a few years ago our pro who does stock some ladies clothing found it a very hard sell, as one woman put it " i wouldn't wear that its makes me look fat " he couldn't believe what he heard.

To be fair to him he has asked the woman memebers what sort of gear they would like stocked in the shop and has ran fashion shows of womens golf clothing a couple of times a year.

Never been to Direct Golf, American golf is decent though, albeit some of the clothes are expensive, I have picked up a few bargains. I got my original set of clubs from there too.

We have express golf down the road from us. The ladies section alone is bigger than most pro shops I have seen. They also have a lady pro for teaching too. The Missus does not bother with the bigger stores now.

Our pro doesn't stock ladies clothing but if they did want some he has a catalogue full of woman's clothing so they can go in and pick what size/colour they want. The reason for this woman are fussy on colour etc so he would rather do it this way instead

Did he not inform her that it was probably her body that made her look fat? :)

They are exceedingly rubbish for ladies! their edinburgh shop is right next to a club with a very active ladies section - if they stocked stuff then that lot would buy it! their loss

we have a ladies golf shop...nae mens stuff in it ;)

unfortunately i have a £50 voucher for DG (and my club membership gets me another 10%), so i have £55 to spend on ummmm... balls...

I found it interesting when our club had some very good players.
Quite a lot of the men would 'copy' the same clothes as the 'star' players but the ladies would never buy the same clothes as the top girls.

Before the kids my missus played a lot (and beat me but that's a different thread) and there was a pretty active Ladies section at the club that we played at. The pro shop there didn't stock a great deal for the ladies and I remember being dragged off by 3 of the girls to a club that specialised in ladies clothing. There was a pretty extensive selection and it was essentially a mirror image of most pro shops in that there was almost nothing there for men and a lot of ladies from other clubs would make the effort to go there especially. However, looking at that club's website it looks like they have a specialist ladies clothing website that they refer you to rather than carry a load of stock in the shop so maybe even that demand has dwindled.

We got a catalogue through the door a few days ago, and I had a look as I was after some new shoes.
They have 2 pairs. That's all.

The only other female in the entire catalogue is the blonde in the school uniform going "ooohh look at this big golf bag"

But it is a nice picture and certainly made me stop on that page for a second look...............:p

First time I have ever looked at a John Letters travel cover, so it did the trick.

I despair about ladies golf gear, I can never find much that I like. Direct golf is awful and always has been. If they're openly stating they don't stock ladies gear then great because they really were a disaster. American golf is also very poor. They do have some stock but 90% of it I wouldn't even look at twice.

I bought a great pair of trousers in the USA but have never seen anything similar over here.

No chance would I wear the stuff most of the LPGA pros wear; you can tell they're being paid to wear it!

Unfortunately ladies golf sales takes up less the 2% of dg business, many store's stocked small amounts but it never sold. Our Milton Keynes store stocked a good ladies section for a short period, and would you believe it, it never sold.

Seems when we don't stock ladies cloths, all ladies want in, but when we have the stock knowone wants it.

I understand there are 3/4 larger main store's that will have ladies sections. Other then that everything apart from hardware(irons packages woods) will be online. Stores can order anything you may want.

I'm sure Mark Moore could give details on the UK store's stocking ladies clothing.

At least AG have some stock, limited as it is and so they might be a good option. However, my advice would be to find a club with a thriving ladies section and see what their pro shop has and what offers the pro can do.

same as most high st clothing shops full of womens clothes and a small section for men,or how many clothes shops cater just for women as opposed to those those solely for men.Women tend to prepare clothes that they look good in and not to be dressed in identical clothes as other women,us mere men just like the latest golf clothes and most stick with a brand, and bluntly more men play golf than women so the emphasis is male based on everything in the big golf outlets,as one poster has said they would not wear the clothes they see on the LPGA that's the problem who is going to stock all the latest gear from the manufacturers if very few ladies have the figure or inclination to wear them.

I can't agree more, local pro shops have good ladies stock. There are a handful of local shops we send customers to if we donot have anything to offer there and then. If we can order it in we will do so.

Sadly we can't please everyone, some stock decisions are just out of store's hands.
