Ok just had a phone call from new club re HiD new handicap.

As you know we have come from New Zealand and apparently our handicaps are not valid, correct. Or so we thought.

Did my 3 cards and lowest score minus SSS gave me a handicap of 6 double my NZ 3, yippee 3 shots back and a challenge to get it down again.

HiD does her 3 cards and lowest score minus SSS gave her a handicap on my reckoning of 32, 105-73.

Oh no it doesn't the deputy handicap sec and Lady Captain decided that as she was off 28 in NZ she can be off 28 here.
( in NZ as different system it was 28 index playing to 30 on our course. )

Rant over and will be appealing this.....

Really? that's very steady playing then 105 with nothing worse than a Double bogey. must have been all bogeys and doubles.

That's her golf, but she can have triples in there too by my understanding. What really rankles is that they have disregarded the 3 cards she did and just given her one on her say so as to what it was in NZ.

Have talked to a friend who is in the know and they cant do what they have done so we have asked they refer to the County.

What's the problem with the NZ handicaps?

Unless there's a fundamental difference it seems a reasonable approach to me. Not that I know anything about handicapping!

But 28 or 32 is it really worth arguing about?

I may be wrong but I believe that the club can giver her whatever handicap they want. if it has been said 'she was 28 in NZ that whats she gets. well that Is wrong

They are based on the USGA system so not transferable, which is why we were told to do the 3 cards to gain a handicap , which were then totally ignored . Under the rating and slope system her 28 index gave her 30 shots on our home course.

In the broader scheme of things no, but her 3 cards her suggest that her best golf here in harder conditions she should be off 32 so will take 40 rounds to get there !!

Just played a match today with a player who has returned from New Zealand with a H/C of 15 which was not accepted. Three cards in and has been given 19.
Are we the only place on earth with our own system? For once I go along with USA et al system.
