I volunteered to act as a ball spotter for our Ladies Open competition today. the My allocated hole was the 3rd, which is a long par-4 for both men and ladies. I positioned myself about level with where I expected the balls to finish. I saw the first lady swing at her ball, but never saw it until appeared on the fairway about 100 yards back down. She had half topped it and it just made the fairway. This sort of set a pattern for the day, with the vast majority hardly getting much distance at all, and usually taking 4 to get to the green. I probably only saw about four really decent drives and only 2 players reached the green in 2. This was despite them playing off the somewhat shorter red ladies tees. It made me wonder if the red tees are really short enough for the average lady club golfer? They made even most of our senior men look like Bubba Watson! (Ducks for cover!) :)

Some of women's golf TBH is laughable.. My course for example they were crying it was to short for them. So we gave them more length. Then there was a bunker added to a par 5 that they couldn't get out of..so we ended up adding the same amount of sand again to it so they could hit out.

As I have stated before don't have much time for womans golf.. And we have 150 woman members and 140 of them are brutal bad I mean 30 plus handicappers

I see them out hacking up the fairways chatting the biggest load of crap about this new club and how great Doris is now playing after all her lessons.
(I think to myself Doris needs more than x amount of lessons, a miracle is what she's needs)

TBH am no pro golfer but if I played like them hitting the ball 50 yards with a driver I just give up the game.

Surely they can do something else with there time.. Take up bowls or something. No call to out on a 18 hole par 70 course..

Get over yourselves, every Club needs more female members, I know blokes that are worse than the women described,
Golf for all regardless of gender or age.

To be fair to the Ladies, there are some decent players. I occasionally play with a Lady County player who can outdrive me off the gents tee, and the Lady Pros on the LPGA and the LET can certainly get it out there. I wouldn't wish to drive them out of the sport, and would like to see more of them playing the game. :)

Two of my three golf instructors I have had are female and they definitely had game!

I do not know if it is the case in the UK or not but here in the USA to have mixed sex foursomes (ooh-err!) at public golf courses is not uncommon and more often than not it is bad men rather than bad women who hold up play. Just my observation.

The ladies I watched weren't slow and I only saw one lose a ball, probably OOB over a boundary fence.

My wife is a complete novice to golf and is quite enjoying it. But judging by the odd comment on here I suppose I'd better tie her back to the kitchen sink as she's pretty awful at the game.

Sometimes I have to check the date to make sure I've not been time warped back to the 60's. Unbelievable!

Yes, that's Ladies Golf!

How often do you (even off the Yellows) make that Green in 2 Del? Then consider why many women are off handicaps 18 or more higher than yours!

Oh, and it's (Men's) Seniors Golf for many of those off above 20 also!

I've got on in 2 quite often and even birdied that hole a few times. Admittedly I need a bit of a following wind to make it and I usually lay up short of the cross bunker, as that is a killer!

I've played with plenty of 28 handicapper male members that are truely shocking. But that doesn't mean they aren't giving it there all. The attitude towards women golfers on the whole is shocking.

I play with a lady member week in, week out. She plays off 21 and is bloody deadly off it. She a real golfer too, loves the sport, watches it and plays is all weathers with a smile. In fact I'd prefer playing with her and her husband than most of the male golfers in the club. It's just so much more relaxed.

That seems about right for SI 1 hole (SI 2 for Ladies), where 2 long and accurate shots are required! That's exactly where those with 'static' handicaps in the 20s, often at the high end, get/need the extra shots! Ladies, in general, simply don't have the upper body strength to hit the ball as hard, therefore as far, as Men - even Seniors!

The problem is that with the ladies the difference in distance between the good players and the high handicappers (especially the older ones) is greater than among male players. While an athletic talented young female player might well hit a driver over 250 yards, many senior ladies are glad when they manage 130 yards (and that's on a good drive). That makes a fair and still challenging placements for ladies' tees a real challenge. To address that, you'd need at least two different sets of ladies' tees on the course. Of course, there are differences between men as well, but my impression is that even most older weekend hackers can smash the ball an awful long way ... just a bit diagonally in some cases :D My dad surely can.

The standard of play amongst our lady members probably isn't anywhere near the OP's God given talents and to be honest the average age of their membership is probably much higher than the male section.

That said, in general they play quicker, are more likely to let quicker matches through, and frankly are a every bit as important to the club for being members, without taking into account how much many do voluntarily behind the scenes and helping with big comp days and with the juniors. Frankly a disappointing OP

Club Lady golfers are not 'not as good' or 'not as long' they play a different game thats all and as long as they enjoy it who are we men to criticise. I have always enjoyed mixed golf its usually fun. Its Lady professional golf I have a issue with.. Yes they are good golfers but even the best of them would struggle in the lower echelons of mens golf so they are getting millions for not being as good as the man matybe 500th in the world in equality terms isnt that sexist???

Personally I do not enjoy playing mixed golf, simply because I prefer male company whilst golfing. That said I have nothing against lady golfers , I do however try and play at times when there are less ladies on the course, golfing ability has nothing to do with it, as the way I am playing just now I have absolutely no right to criticise any golfer male or female.

If you do not enjoy lady golfers simply avoid them, a golf course/club should offer enough opportunities for you to do this.

I had a couple months off proper work last summer and worked at Celtic Manor - a mix of reception, handing out buggy keys , starters hut and marshalling.... and to be honest, most of what I saw scared the hell out of me - a decent proportion of the people who played there were blooming awful. (but having fun so no matter!) And lets face it , we all hit bad shots sometimes!

So, the many of the original comments about the ladies can apply equally to plenty of male players too.

I agree with the other point.... Played 3 rounds with my wife in Cornwall last week... on many holes the Reds were only 30 yards in front of the Yellow Tees... not really enough of a fair head start at any handicap level.

At least this thread has not played into the stereotype of misogyny in golf perpetuated by mostly elderly male golfers.....

Seriously, a thread having a pop at a section of golfer!?! How very, very sad. I don't care about your gender nor your ability. I do hope you have a great day playing this wonderful game.
