I watched a bit of it last night and it got me thinking.....

Can anyone on here without the aid of Google name me the top 3 in the Ladies World Rankings?

I certainly couldn't........

We have a lady on the brink of completing a 3rd of the 5 Majors needed for the 'Grand Slam' yet there is nothing in the press about this over here.

Why is Ladies Golf's stock so low?

Apart from the two opens, I couldn't name the other 3 majors, when they are played or where.

I'm sure that reflects worse on me than the womens' game, but not a great advert for their marketing.

Er. Yes! But that's as far as I go before the names get a bit confusing - certainly not more than 4 (and 4th only because it's Choi).

Hard pressed to actually give the rankings of Men past 2 as well - as it's not something I actually follow, though could probably name 6 or 7 of the top 10 - and certainly recognise them without labels.

How about Seniors/Champions Tour?

Pretty much the same applies to Tennis btw! Men's 1- 8 I can name Men, though order not quite perfect (Nadal). Ladies, I only get top 3.

3 replies eh?

Says everything we need to know about the stock of ladies golf I think.

Looks like the 3rd part of the 5 needed to complete the Grand Slam is secured.Impressive stuff.

It does get such poor coverage, i'm surprised Sky haven't got a dedicated golf channel yet, they have a dedicated F1 channel and if i'm not mistaken one of the sky sports channles is is becoming sky ashes when the ashes starts.

They could just show all the golf on it from all the tours, i'm sure plenty of people would watch it.

Are the Brits so bad that it forces Mickey what's her name to constantly talk about the Solheim Cup?

It seems that is all that woman lives for and talks about....'such and such will be a tough nut to crack in the Solheim Cup - Such and such could be a thorn in our side in years to come in the Solheim Cup'

Surely she needs to address the fact that ladies Euro golf needs to pull itself up by the breeks and actually compete on the major scene instead of being also rans who have their bigger stars miss cuts consistently with shots to spare?

hell of a good question & i had no idea as to the answer to it anyhow Alan , out of curiosity i wonder do our lady forum members watch much ladies golf ? do they even show much ladies golf .. i would have thought the lpga is dominated by the asian contingent... ..

I don't think the LET is in great shape to be honest; the tour schedule isn't exactly jam packed with tournaments:

March - only 2
April - only 1
June - 1
July - 2
October - 1

I really wish they would do this. I used to enjoy Big Break on the Golf Channel, and also the wall to wall coverage of the press conferences before a big tournament.

Are the "big" names all plying their trade across the pond then ? just back for the biggies .. ?

Pretty much I believe. The Slovak Open winner netted a massive 37,500 euro; by comparison Cristie Kerr took home $195,000 for winning the Kingsmill championship on the LPGA.

Just caught the last 6 holes of this. Can understand why it isn't mentioned much, absolutely bereft of any excitement at all.

For someone who has now bagged 3majors in a row, Park looked like she was contemplating rodding the drains when she got home.

Dull & boring.

Anyone heard of Jodi Ewart (-Shadoff)?

Not a name I'd heard of before this US Open!

Tied 4th even after a couple of poor-ish last rounds.

The womens' game has been in decline for a while. A few years ago (when Sorenstam was at her peak, for example, or Michelle Wie, Creamer and Gulbis coming on the scene) events got a lot more TV coverage - you could see the LPGA event most weeks - but now you don't. Some blame this on the influx of Asian players, many of whom are great players but a little devoid of personality and the US TV watching public finds some of the difficult to distinguish from one another. The new star, Inbee Park, seems to fit right into this mould, but I don't think she will inspire sponsors to flood back. For a while, Stacy Lewis has interrupted the tsunami of Asian players at the top, and other younger players like Lexi Thompson may follow.

At least Sebonack Golf Club looked great. Good choice for the event.

No different from the Men's European Tour then? Men's Ladies & Seniors are all now the poor relations in regards World Golf, unfortunately all the top players are chasing the big BUCKS!!....only plus side is they are doing it rather well

TBH I watched the ladies a couple of times and I just drifted away from it. Not the Korean girls fault but very little emotion and the inevitable result make watching a bit of a task. For a few years the glamour side looked to be the main attraction whether promoted or not. What I see now is machines playing golf, not players, not women.
