Evening all :)

After some advice please....

Early Saturday 10 of us are off to La Manga for 4 days, This is our first "foreign" beano for all of us so just after some pointers please.

We are booked in to play all 3 courses but after advice re stuff like airport transfers/nightlife etc as well as the golf.

I think their own official shuttle service from the airport is £25 per person per way. Good value or are we better piling into a couple of taxi's ?

Evening entertainment :D We are all partial to a beer or two, are we going to be better off eating/drinking in the resort or is there a town nearby ? We get breakfast as part of the deal and I have no idea of resort prices and cant find any info on their website. Apparently there is 2for1 drinks in the bar between 6 and 8 but if we venture out will we have to factor in taxi's or anywhere within walking distance ?

I'm fully expecting the golf to be half decent and the picture of the 18th tee on the West course looks awesome, getting excited now :D

Any advice welcome, cheers

Its an OK resort with some of the courses being good and some not so. Accomm is normally good however and there's plenty of local restaurants in the local villages. Good Indian on the top of the central building near the main pool. Cant remembers its name... all the resort restaurants are expensive but the local village ones are less flash but better food and better value. As in most of Spain go local and book to eat later they dont go out till 10am when most Brits are pissed and passed out by then. Be aware if you drink in the central piano bar etc they will rip you off as in most resorts for anything but beer. There is a bus shuttle that takes you around the place. There are some additional special bars around best spk to the local taxi drivers for those. ;) Personally I felt it was an ok golf resort for a boys trip with some good courses thrown in. Personally not the best in Spain and wouldnt be my choice again as now heavily populated but Im sure you're have a good time anyhow if the weathers good! :)

Thanks for the reply mate, looks like the local villages are the way to go for food/drink.

I'm all done with work now so may try and play 18 somewhere tomorrow morning (anyone around North Kent fancy a round somewhere ?) and then pack and try and find the passport !

As said it's our first foreign beano and we've probably taken a easy choice and I'm sure we will love it out there.

Roll on 0230 Saturday morning when my mate picks me up !

I think La Manga is great personally. Have been there a few times and I would go there again.

Out of the 3 courses, I would say the West was my least favourite, but still a good course...if you can hit the ball straight, that excludes me. Granted the 18th on the West will take your breath away. The other problem with the west is that you have to drive there/shuttle, where as the North and South are a 2 minute walk from the hotel.

In terms of nightlife, there is Mulligans, an irish pub in the resort which is a good laugh and it can get quite rowdy in there, best place for a group of guys. The piano bar in the main hotel is nice, but a bit civilised, so good if you are with a girl and want a quiet drink.

In terms of food, I can highly recomend Luigis (awesome italian food, good wine) and La Bodega (excellent tapas, spanish music, good wine). Those are both definitely worth eating at. The Indian, Dharma, has great views, but is very expensive and the food is ok, not great. Perhaps worth popping up there for a few beers and taking in the view before going downstairs to Luigis for dinner.

If you are there for 4 days I would say definitely go to Cartagena for one of the nights, you will need a taxi, but its worth the 30 minute ride. Its a harbour town and some great seafood restaurants on the waters edge. A few bars as well and it can get nicely busy with locals after 10pm, when most spaniards go out.

Hope that helps, have a good time.

Cheers

What General Store says, bang on the money. Only been with the wife & kids and it does the job nicely for us, usually stay in the hotel which suits us. Cracking pool, smart rooms, good food (particulary in Luigi's for family), great golf courses & facilities.

Just thinking about it's getting me in the mood for some sunshine!!...and golf.

Been a couple of times. Cartagena worth a visit. Resort restaurants are variable: the Indian up the top was expensive but the food was great. Luigi's is always busy so make sure you book. There's also a chinese near Luigis which was good too.

Have fun, hope you get some sun !
