Went to La Cala many years ago when it was very new, am guessing its a bit more built up now. It is a little bit out of the way, 10 mins inland from the coast and nothing else there bar the resort, prob 20 mins+ to Marbella. Hotel was nice and the golf was good (2 courses when we went though I believe they were adding a third), albeit it was quiet when we went, I expect it may get a bit busy at certain times, decent practise facilities too. Are plenty of other courses in the area too
its a pretty good set up. The hotel is nice and everything is on the door step. The courses x3 are good in the main, but can be a bit tight & fiddly in places.
Been a couple of times... the America course is great (just wait until you see the first tee shot!), the Europe course is 2nd great and the Asian is third best.
As is said already the hotel is nice and very relaxing, there's also a Leadbetter academy just 10min walk up the road and a tricky 9-hole course. The hotel IS a bit out in the stix though so you'll have to do a bit of driving if you want any more night-life than a 'beer on the veranda'.
