Anyone played here? Anyone a member? What are your thoughts on the course? How did you fare? And how would a high handicapper approach it? Any experience of the clubhouse?

Talk to me... :)

I walked a few holes of it the other weekend, as you kind of share it with the public walking round Knowledge Park. Was pretty impressed and will be trying to play there soon or next year. Clubhouse looked quite nice on a sunny day, but not sure what it was like indoors.
A high handicapper should approach it like every other course - cautiously! :)

It's a course that's playable by all standards, but when the bracken is up in the summer it grows a few extra teeth.
Not particularly long, although from the back tees it's a very solid challenge.
Greens are challenging, and the par 3s the toughest set you will find anywhere when taken together - the 5th plays about 180 and you can hit it a smudge short and watch it roll back 140 of those! Get above the hole and overcook the putt - you can be 140 down the hill again. ..:(
If you like Tandridge, Rye, Cinque Ports clubhouses then you will like this one...strict dress codes but reasonable prices.
I like it, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. It is a good golf course though.

I am indeed. It's going to about a 5 minute walk from my new home.... seems like a great club, and only heard good things the actual course, I just want it to be welcoming and inclusive for me and my partner.

Darenth Valley GC is also just down the road, if you're looking for other options.

Its a public course but has its own members group .

Thanks Spongebob!

Nizels is a nice course, it's quite a different place to Knole Park though.

Nizels is a corporate place, which has it's plusses and minuses, one of the plusses being the gym and other facilities, the downside being I suspect if gets booked up with a lot of guests and societies.

Knole Park is very much a members club.

Take a good look round a few of them and work out which suits you best.

Knole Park is a pricey club to be a member of, (I believe it might still have a joining fee?) unless you benefit from one of the intermediate membership deals, the full rate is c.£1,600.

Another course nearby is Wildernesse - I suspect it is similarly pricey and not sure how easy it is to become a member.

I've heard the Widernesse is very hard to get into unless you know a member there.

That was a few years back so might have changed.

Knole doesn't have a joining fee (last time I looked and is no more expensive for 7 day than most of the others in the area (they were fully run through a few months ago for TheCaddie.
Wilderness still had a £2500 joining fee when I last looked.

Is Hever really as much as £1,600, Duncan?

More than £100 per month starts to feel like a lot of money to me.

I do have the benefit of intermediate membership price, which makes things a lot easier! :)

Thanks all... much appreciated.

Wildernesse were incredibly unwelcoming when I called... they were not really willing to discuss much on the phone, had no real interest that both myself and my partner would consider joining, and for me, had the attitude that just isn't golf anymore!!

A close friend of mine basically said it is the best course he has played in the county, but unless they change their attitude, they are probably going only one way....

First impressions for me are everything, and it wasn't a good one.

Just had a look at the course website, has it changed in the last few years ?

All the par 3's are up near the 200 mark !

Don't remember them being all that long

Definitely looks like a tough course to save shots on!! Beautiful course though as well...

From memory I would put the 1st at about 175, 5th about the same - both play very much uphill and longer. 8th has lots of tees and is strict downhill to a firm green at about 155, 10th level at 160, 12th 210 or more, 16th is also up around 190.
But my memory isn't what it used to be
