Guys,

Just after a little bit of advice.

I have the first round of our club knockout arranged for Sunday but our greens are diabolic! They have just been hollow cored and sanded but are virtually unplayable. Rearranging is not an option so my question is do you think its fair to agree a gimmie distance before we tee off and how long is fair? One putter length? 33"?

I would just hate the match to be settled on someones misfortune by missing a short put through no fault of their own.

what do you think?

Yes you could talk about conceding putts within a certain length but it can still get a bit nasty if someone is and inch or two outside etc. I would personally just agree not to be too silly seeing putts in or, alternately, agree to see all putts in so that nobody gets an advantage

I would just get on with the match as it is the same for all.

You never know you may be on the end of the good fortune :)

If I was your opponent and you asked me that question I would decline immediately and get in your head as I would know you do not fancy it ;)

Think positive, putt your putts firmly straight at the hole and you might just win the match :) :) :)

We had an away club match last sunday & as we were discussing local rules etc they said there was placing on fairways , play as normal everywhere else... grand happy days . JUST before start of game that was changed to placing everywhere... that said to me that the home team were not very confident, we won 3 of our 4 matches ,, dont mention putts or concessions or anything just play it as it happens & good luck

Im for the never concede putts brigade, and to be honest im rubbish from close in.But its the same for all, just make sure your club face is clear of all sand granuals and the ball, hit it harder than you would normally and there will be less break, happy golfing

Re: Knock out match & our terrible greens!

I seem to remember reading that such an agreement is against the rules anyway.

Just putt as usual, dodgy greens are made twice as bad if you let it get into your mind.

Play the game and don't give anything, even a 1 incher!
If the greens are that bad then anything's missable and it's the same for both sides. I wouldn't expect to get any putts conceeded either.
