This case is a classic example of why laws on knife crime are so wrong. How can one judge interpret that it is ok to give a two year suspended sentance. Only for it to go to appeal and he then gets sent down for 3 1/2 years. It is time that someone grabbed knife crime by the scruff of the neck re education and custodial sentances being a deterrent. Until that happens people will continue to die.

But but but? He's been failed by society throughout his whole life, what is he to do but to carry knifes like that? He's only a teenager trying to make his way. I'm sure he has great plans for his future!

A lot of authorities are clueless on knife crime, this morning I saw an article shared by a friend that suggests in order to reduce knife crime in youths anyine found with one will get banned by the law from social media... Because that's a real deterrent isn't it..

Seems every toe-rag is carrying a knife these days.... Police used to stop and search (which was abused in places) but since it went, the issue of knife crime has gone up. Nothing wrong with the policy, but the application needed sorting. Balance is needed.

Police budegts are also being cut at a time of rapid inner city population growth and (with the best will in the world) politisation of their leadership appears to have led to some weird priorities.

Glasgow Council/Polis seem to have sorted the problem, complicated joined up thinking plan but it seems to be working very well.
They have also not suffered the drastic reduction in their policing numbers as other UK Cities.

Listen to the Billy Connolly skit on the Dangerous Dogs Act; you'll find it's exactly the same "outside the box" thinking...

And these people claim to be the best of us.

I've seen clips on the news about this before. Good for them. There is rarely a single solution but govts don't do joined up very well. Hopefully others are up in Glasgow to see how it is working.
