I promised my son that I will let him come and watch a grown up competition. So this weekend as I was responsible for child care, I signed up to play a 'adult improver competition' which is an informal comp (different thread about it). I asked Jr to be my 'caddie' as I was his caddie last weekend. As we were the last group behind the ladies, I knew there would be a fair bit of waiting around, so I put his driver in my bag. My PPs were ok with him having a go as it was a bit of a novelty factory and I must say that nipper did milk it.

This is the photo on our longest drive hole... The only problem is one of the guys on the pic topped his shot which did not go far, while Jr hit a peach which flew about 60-70y... What a laugh it was..... The other consolation was that Daddy hit the longest drive and got a prize!!! Happy days..

Awesome! Sounds brilliant.
I took my son (6) with me to the local pay and play. 9 holes. He "caddied" for me, carrying spare balls and tee pegs. Got the ball out of the cups, looked after the flag on the greens, helped me find my ball after each shot, and had 10 minutes in the woods looking for lost balls whilst I waited for a green to clear. He had an absolute ball and my 4 year old wants to have a go too.
Really happy they are interested. We regularly "play golf" in the back garden. I practise short chips while they borrow my irons and knock the balls around.
Hopefully when they're a bit older they'll enjoy learning the good old game too.

Unfortunately, now I have a 6 year old who tells his class that 'I can drive longer than Brian* '.... I dont envy Brian's position..

Quality, sometimes words cannot express how you fell taking the young ones with you.
when I took grandson for last two weeks to driving range it was priceless. When we were in the 19th and he was eating all the cheese off his cheesy chips and giving me half eaten chips.
When he managed to leather one it was fantastic. First time 100 balls dropped into the basket his bottom jaw hit the floor. Happy memories.

I regularly play golf with my Grandad. Its amazing that we still enjoy a competitive knock and he is well into his 70's. He caddied for me on finals day and i caddied for him in his Seniors Matchplay final. Great fun had by all (aside from when he was trying to tell me how to play :L)

Good on you.

How funny is that 'I can drive it longer than Brian!!!'

I first took my son to a par 3 course in Essex, when he was 7 and he loved it. At 14 now he almost drives it as far as I do, but finds the game very very annoying!

Your story reminds me of one story. I now take him on golf days that I organise for my clients and when he was about 11 he won longest drive, as no one else hit the fairway, IIRC he skied he tee shot but it was straight and only went about 100-120 yards but he now has the record for the shortest longest drive winner ever!!:o He was buzzing on the 175 drive mile home about winning it and the clients were just laughing!!

I assume "Brian" has been reminded about being outdriven in a crowded clubhouse

We skipped over the topic...
but I know a bunch of first graders at the local school who know about it. Thank God 'Brian' is not a parent there..

Too polite. I know at my club the usual suspects would have got wind of it and "Brian" would have had the mickey taken mercilessly for a while. Of course the good thing with that lot is they can take as well as give and so if "Brian2" happened to someone else the treatment would be the same

We have him the benefit of doubt that he was jet lagged from his flight from Tenerife or wherever he was on hols till that morning..
