In the middle of a course of lessons at the moment. Things are going well but had a few moments where I am working on drills etc and everything feels forced, like manipulating swing to get the takeaway steeper etc. swing to right. Felt like I was hitting the ball with my forearms and wrists so I could 'guide' the club thru correct path.

Anyway, after lesson today I hit a few balls on my own and tried having only two swings thoughts (a record for me) and they were on b/swing turn shoulders and keep hands quiet throughout swing. Got to say the results were great, and the was no manipulating or compensation to worry about.

Has anyone had similar and will it last? Lol.

Spot on. One thought for the backswing, one for the downswing. You can't cope with any more than that & the nearer you can get to your "natural" swing the better.

Agreed. My backswing thoughts are 'on plane' and 'slow down'. Thereafter ' 'full follow through' and hands out in front'. Works for me...most of the time:ooo:

Any changes to what have been 'normal ' for you up til now will IMO take time for you to embed until they feel natural. So , yes they will last, but only if you put enough effort in to embed them.

I had a lesson about two weeks ago and we concentrated on the width of my stance and getting my posture a bit more athletic, so to embed this I take every opportunity to practice the physical changes so that when I play it won't feel odd, just natural .

Always tricky working on drills or making changes after the lesson. A lot of technical thoughts naturally involved as you try and bleed the new swing together. I don't have a problem with manipulated as long as the ball is behaving in terms of height and direction and the quality of the strike is decent. I just try and work on what I've been shown and try and trust and repeat it. After a couple of sessions I usually feel comfy with it and try and stand there with no swing thoughts. It's the same on the course. I might have a few swing thoughts if I'm playing a practice round on my own but once I'm in the roll up at the weekend or a comp, I try and keep the thoughts to a minimum these days

I have one, dual purpose thought.

Wait/Weight - In that order.

At the top of my back swing - Wait - helps me to stop snatching down in in transition with my arms.

At the top of my backswing - Weight - Reminds me that before I do anything else I move my weight left.

Works for me
