keeping handicap after leaving club?

My regular playing partner is leaving our Club at the end of the month- says that he can't justify the coming year's subs as he doesn't play enough.
We have been meaning to enter a mixed Open sometime but have never got round to it.

What will happen to his hcp after his leaves at the end of March?
He is not joining another Club and will just pay and play

I think it becomes inactive once you are no longer a club member.

He will need to be a member somewhere to retain an active handicap. Maybe worth looking at one fo the low cost deals that many courses have started to do where you pay to join and maintain a handicap but have to pay to play your rounds.

Inactive once they leave. Don't be tempted to use any of the online handicapping services as they aren't CONGU recognised and most Opens won't recognise them as valid

No, it's not inactive. He just doesn't have a CONGU handicap.

So i guess most Opens wouldn't accept us, but I can always ring organiser and check in advance before we apply

worth checking and some will let you play but not claim any prizes should you win any.

you can only have an official congu handicap if you are a member of a club.
