They are saying that 25% of goals in the prem are now from dead ball situations. I see keepers all the time staying on their line, even when balls are delivered into the 6 yard box from distance.

My team have suffered more than most from goals given away from corners, but I see it everywhere. I know there is zonal, part zonal, man on man from corners, and all let in goals. However, from free kicks where everyone starts in line with the forwards, instead of next to them on their shoulder, and all teams/coaches seem to subscribe to it.

I know teams try to block keepers and their runs, but they have the advantage of their hands, so why have the stopped coming out?

I know teams try to block keepers and their runs,
That's why keepers struggle to come for corners especially. Most teams put a player to stand in front of the keeper, so anything near post is almost impossible to get to. Look at the number of bodies inside the six yard box, and also the quality of corners that are whipped in with pace.

'coz the ball no longer does what you think it will...

I know it can go both ways with shots from distance, but high floating free kicks from the wing can have their trajectories picked out from early, surely.

Near post corners - fair enough, but corners sent into the middle or far post can be come for surely.

Prevention is better than cure, I would have thought. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't expect the keeper to catch/punch every one, but surely they would get the majority of them, if they pick which ones to come for. I also don't expect them to come for every cross, but they should make a judgement call. 5 from dead ball situations in the Merseyside derby, De gea for cardiff's 2nd, probably a lot more as well.

Years ago, corners, free kicks, crosses were floated in and keepers would come and catch. Now they are put in with much more pace, flatter trajectory and it is more difficult for keepers to catch before the ball is headed. Rooney gets a lot of assists for his corners which are really whipped in, and very difficult to defend. Cardiff equaliser was another great delivery.

A combination of the new types of boots and balls enable players to put the ball in with so much pace and swerve on a flat trajectory, the keepers really do not chance to get the ball flight correct so prefer to stay on their line and take their chances on either a defender getting on the end of it or they can make the save.

LB - we (as in Liverpool) are getting caught out because Mignolet is not the same style of keeper as Reina,

Reina used to come for everything and clean out anyone in his way, Mignolet prefers to let the Defenders deal with the cross and he will deal with anything that comes from the second ball (although recently thats been picking it out of the net!). Agger and Skytl are still waiting for the keeper to come and get it

I think your thiking of the Reina of the first 3-4 years. The last 2 years he was also rooted to his goal line.
