That might not sound like a problem but when I'm used to a 20-25 yard fade, you're aiming left fairway edge it's a nightmare.

Yesterday, 13th & 18th tee shots stayed perfectly straight if not a little left of target when all of the others did what I expected. Same mental thoughts, same setup and address. I thought I'd lost the first tee shot on 18 so played a provisional only for that to go exactly the same route.

Today, exactly the same thing except it was 14 & 18, provisional on 14 was also left rough, as was the provisional on 18.

Thankfully I found the balls on 18 both days but if it wasn't for playing 3 off the tee on 13 on Saturday and 14 on Sunday id have shot 81 and 80 respectively - 80 being my best score to date.

I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts as to why this occurs? For the last 5-6 weeks it happens 2-3 times a round and royally ruins a good scorecard.

Any input appreciated.

On the ones that stay straight rather than fading you are not swinging left as much or not hitting it out of the neck as much

(disclaimer) In general theory

Most common way to slice the ball is swing left with the face open, so ball starts left then slices back towards the middle.

All that needs go happen to get a straight left is to square the face to your left swing path and it goes dead straight but left.

Sounds like that is what is happening to you...

makes perfect sense, thanks. Just don't know why I do it 2-3 of 14 drives a round.

Because you're an amateur and you don't swing the same everytime.

The same reason I shank the ball, hit it out of the toe, top the ball and fat it all in the same round. Then regain faith by hitting one pure.

Is that the same young Stevie that doesn't use a wood at all

I like to think my post explains why I only use my woods on the practise range at the minute. You saw what happens when I bring them out.

I did manage to put my 4 iron to the centre of our 231 yard par 3 today so am perfectly happy leaving the woods out of the bag for now.

Stevie , I couldn't throw my 4 iron that far . But i tried my best to get you and Khamilion to use your drivers at ForrestPines, to give me and Tony weee a chance. :o
But i suppose the solar power company are glad you guys didn't use them

I know exactly where you're coming from, my driver has taken up residence at the back of my locker for the forseeable future although it does come out if I'm 'feeling brave' like this evening (left off the 1st T, o.o.b, over the road, into the farmers field) I've taken to taking long irons of the T's as much as I can, rescue's another option, 3-wood if I really must...

Need to get some alignment rods I think and spend some time on the range. Trouble is, when Im on the range is very, very rarely occurs.

After reading on here, I think I might be placing it ever so slightly too far forward in my stance.

On your good shots, your clubface is a touch open to the swing path.
On the shots that go straight left, the clubface is square to the swing path.
I'd say there may be a problem with your grip.
Get that checked first

Dont buy any rods, use clubs. Spend the money on a lesson so someone can show you where you are going wrong.

Reason I say that is I had a tendency to hit drives with a fade, which also meant the face was open ( not as much as a slice ). When I went for me fitting at Ping, the guy who fitted me had a look at my driver and woods. In a nutshell he showed me how to hit the ball starting with the club face open. Now that took some believing until the results of ball going straighter and further convinced me. But it was not just about having the club square when hitting the ball. The hands especially the left ( if right handed ) were as important. Mr PGA pro will show you that.

Yup that was me when I pulled one left on Bamburghs third and it flew straight into there workshops. It went low and fast and frightened the life outta me

Managed 10/12 fairways on Sunday and shot net 79 (+9). Clearly not the driver causing the issue!!! Ball flight neutral and while it's only 225-235 yards it's not in the knee high stuff. Keeping it in play has been a priority this year and while FIR is only 48% its going the right way as it was a paltry 41% last year

Whose standards are you judging yourself by?

Lots of low guys cant hit 12-14 drives on path every time, even with a repeatable shot.

Maybe aim 5-10 yards inside the LH side of the fairway to give you some error on both sides.
