Keane to Celtic

You got any links? It's still just a rumour as far as I know.

As for Giggs, he has no CV as a manager so no idea why he is automatically the answer.

Do you really need a CV to manage Celtic these days. Absolute certainty to win the league. In racing vernacular it's a steering job.

Yes you need a CV, they need some success in Europe i.e. getting to the Champions League group stages, and Rangers are back so the 100% certainty days in the league are over.

As for Keane, a quick check on Twitter has one bookie suspending betting on him but Chris McLaughlin from the BBC has tweeted that word from inside Celtic Park is that an appointment is not imminent, still interviewing apparently...

Id imagine Celtics 100% record if safe for a season or two. Still a gulf in class atm.

Yeah and the guy who just steered them to their last two league titles had to jump before he was pushed because that wasn't good enough.

They'll still be strong favourites to win it next year but it won't be a certainty for the first time in four years.

They are deffo still favourites but nowhere near a certainty going forward.

In a few years maybe. Not gonna claim to pay too much to the spl these days. But if a team just promoted is truly to be considered a threat already. Then the league is in a worse state than I'd heard.

But it's not just any team, Rangers still had the 2nd biggest wage bill in Scotland when they were in the bottom tier and have had all the way thru their journey back up the lower leagues. And Celtic are complete cack at the moment, as demonstrated by Rangers dumping them out of the Scottish Cup.

The league next season is deffo back to a competition between the big 2, altho Celtic naturally start as favourites.

Team that almost got relegated just won the epl.

There's not a big gulf between the spl and the top teams in the championship; just look at the cups this year. The team that went up last year has just finished third. Rangers probably won't win it next year but they're a decent side and will bring more players in so expect a better challenge than in recent years.

IMO rangers won't finish top 3 next year without serious investment and I can see Celtic win the next 3 league titles at least.

All about opinions as they say on the phone ins, but I have them 2nd at worst next season as long as Warburton stays in post. And depending who Celtic go for as their next manager and how badly they get pumped in the Euro games at the start of next season (hard to imagine anything else when a 36 year old Kenny Miller ran them ragged), it could be very close at the top IMO.

He still got them there though. Aberdeen were never going to be a long term threat.

I reckon Celtic have the league tied up to another 9 in a row. By that time Rangers will be a new company and will have found another few tax loopholes.

Amd said team were 5000 to 1. Miracles can happen, but I wouldn't be using it as a barometer for what I expect to happen.

Rangers are 3/1 second favourites so would be a long way from a miracle.

My point was that using a 5000/1 shot to prove a point is ignoring the very fact it was unlikely in the first place.

3/1 for a team just promoted to a league, no matter how poor the league is, is just the bookies making sure they are hit by lots of rangers fans backing their team. I certainly wouldn't cash the mortgage on em.

Absolutely Gerry but let me add some perspective to my thought. Celtic were probably as bad in that semi as they'd been at any part throughout the season and Rangers probably played their best football all season. The score was 1-1. When did Rangers actually last win a game? What about the league stats on the perceiption Celtic have a poor manager in Ronnie Deila and that Rangers have a great manager in Mark Warburton.

Delia - P 36, GD 56, 83 points
Warburton - P 36, GD 54, 81 points

Stats dont always tell the full story but points make prizes, less points in the same games played in a lower league. There has to be seeds of doubt sown there.

Next season is a different beast and there will be lots to run between now and next May and a lot will hinge on Rangers opening fixtures but if they happen to find themselves some tough away fixtures in the first 9 games (Aberdeen, Hearts, Celtic) they may find themselves a bit wanting unless they get some significant investment.

Anyway, Scottish football is a side distraction, the big game for Scottish sport is next weekend in Galway ;)

Will be interesting to see what Rangers do this summer, have they got a lot/some/any money to bring in players? I know they have quite a high wage bill as it stands (2nd behind Celtic maybe?) but I haven't really followed all the goings on at board level there so not sure what their position is.

Can't see Aberdeen or Hearts spending much money so every chance Rangers will be above both next year.

We had 4 or 5 chances to put real pressure on Celtic this season and bottled it every time so can't see that changing, probably 3 or 4 decent players short to compete with the OF over a season just now aswell.

They'll have some money but I wouldn't expect them to sign anyone costing say £500k. Wages will be their largest outlay so I fancy there will be many free transfers and loans.

People can say what they like about Rangers, new/old or whatever, bottom line is they are still a big club and will be a draw for ambitious young players however I can't see any stars of the championship or league 1 moving as they'll be on similar money or better there particularly at the upper end of the championship.
