When out for a quick 9 holes after the weather broke today and ran into a juvenile waiting to go out after a 4 ball tee'd off. Being in no rush myself I asked him if he wanted to join me. Trying to get into the Ulster under 13 he wasn't going to play of the front tee but I shocked when he choose the back ones.

At 11 his maturity was impressive. Considerate to other golfers without needing any guidance. He also had a short game I was jealous of. Every now and again he said he wasn't happy with his length of the tee (driving about 180) but I showed him why it didn't really matter. On a long par 5 I got to the green in 3, he took 4. I walked of with an embarrassing 4 putt where he took 2.

Probably one of the most enjoyable casual rounds I've ever had and I gave him 3 Pro V1's from my bag as a "prize".

Was nice to be able to offer him a little guidance on rules while we went along to help keep him right in competitive games. As he had been told wrongly how to take relief from casual water and also what to do if you drive OB.

Does anyone else take a junior under their wing while out for a quick round? I would do again because this kid taught me more without opening his mouth than any "helpful" adult I've been out with.

yes there is 3 lads all 16 year old that have just joined our club and i go out quite alot with them enjoy the laugh and there is no pressure

The juniors at my old club, were all sharks !!!
They'd relieve you of your beer money given half a chance.50p a hole on the practice putting green, and £5 front 9,£5 back, and £5 overall on the course !!!
Bloody kids !!

I played with a few teenagers regularly if they were hanging around looking for a game, they walked fast, played fast, had no fear, asked questions and I helped all the time, it's great fun.

Only issue I had once was one of the teenage girls asked to join me as I'd helped her on the range a few times, lovely girl and really trying to improve, trouble was she was wearing tight tiny shorts that day and the looks and comments I got later was quite inappropriate and stopped me ever doing that again, shame really.

As a 15 year old my only concern about joining my local club in a month or so is that I'm worried I'll have no one to play with as none of my friends are interested in golf :( I just hope there will be a few people like palindromicbob and beggsy who won't be detracted by the fact I'm a teenager... We dont bite! ;)

Mr T, you'll be fine mate. There will probably be a few lads and lasses in your age group already there so you'll meet some new friends when you get there.

If not I find that the senior section always enjoys playing golf with youngsters, I started playing when I was 11 and 19 years later the seniors still don't mind me tagging along if I'm down during the day. They are normally quite enjoyable to be around too, the golf isn't always great but if your willing to listen there's a lot of life experience out there thats worth listening to.
