Great round of golf.

Rose gets to make history both for his gold medal win and forthe first hole-in-one.

Well done.

Great win, was so happy for him. Took it seriously and now got his reward with his name in the history books. Achieved more than the naysayers sat on there arse at home.

Team event with 2 men from each country. 4'somes, 4bbb, greensomes there are loads of formats other than same old medal tournament. Women do the same.

Regardless of the arguments over whether golf should be an Olympic event, personally I don't think it should, I am really pleased that Rose won gold, he embraced the games, took part in the opening parade and thoroughly deserved the win.

Think it could have a place but 72 hole tournament is wrong format. Matchplay with womens gents and mixed would have been better.

In terms of the best format from a golf perspective I would like to see something like 36 or 54 hole stroke play with the top 16 or 8 going into a match play comp BUT the problem with match play is that the matches often don't go all the way so you can't guarantee any matches reaching the 18th green, which is where grandstands etc usually are and can mean that fans don't get to see the climax of the event. That would be a shame especially as it is likely that a lot of the spectators will be new to the game.

Olympic golf should be done in a similar format to the Cycling Omnium in that to get the gold you compete in several different events, over a couple of days.

1 - Chipping contest
2 - Long drive
3 - Putting contest
4 - 9 hole par 3 contest
5 - 18 hole round

All of this extra stuff rather (in my mind) distracts from what Justin Rose has achieved.

By getting the first gold he's done something no other golfer has done beating Jack, Arnold, Tiger etc. etc.

I think it should be off handicap. We could use the Trilby Tour as a qualifier. Forget drug cheating scandals, just imagine the furore over the handicaps in the 2020 Olympic Golf when some bloke from Austria scores 49 points off "18" and finishes outside the medals.

In fact, it would be so crap we could even have Peter Alliss commentating on it.
