I guess this is aimed primarily at the Scottish based forummers but if anyone else can help, please do.
I'm planning a trip to Scotland in late July and I need some suggestions please.
There will be two couples looking for a cottage style holiday anywhere north of Loch Lomond. It will primarily be a walking holiday, but, as we're all in our mid to late fifties, nothing ridiculously hilly. It must be somewhere beautiful, (that's most of Scotland then), but not stupidly remote................we'd like to be able to walk to a pub/shop etc.
Having said that, I'd like it to be fairly quiet and good views would be a bonus! Maybe west coast?
Oh, and I'd like to be within striking distance of one of Scotland's many hidden gems of a golf course.......or two.
Thanks in advance,

Slime.

Plockton looks stunning DarthVega, but the golf.................agghhh, the golf!
The nearest would appear to be Lochcarron Golf Club which is 45 minutes in the car and only nine holes.
Good shout though, I appreciate it,

Slime.

Look at Ullapool. Lots of good walking options, decent pubs, and has a nine hole golf course which is nothing special but good enough for a golfing fix.

Cairngorms I would say. Boat of Garten, Aviemore, Grantown on Spey. All have courses plenty mountains and lochs. Nairn,Moray coast less than an hours drive , along with Inverness and Lochness.

Grantown On Spey.
Nestled in the Cairngorms for the walking and handy for many great golf courses including...
Boat Of Garten
Grantown On Spey
Elgin
Nairn / Nairn Dunbar
Castle Stuart

All within easy driving distance.

Get the train up to oban and nip on the ferry to Mull. Lovely place my bro manages a lovely b&b there.

As me and the missus missed out on Oban last new year, we are considering it as an option also.

However, check on the midgie forecast - a big consideration for the west coast.

There are no decent golf courses in the north west of Scotland.
Lots of interesting wee local 9 holers though but don't look for Sunningdale standards.
If you want to combine good golf courses and walking the Speyside area is best.

Mull is best for walking and wildlife, nice wee 9 holer at Tobermory with probably the best views in Scotland. Lots of cottages on Mull but get in early [£4-600 p/w]
Arran probably offers your best options. They do a brilliant golf passport for about 6 courses, Cottages a bit more expensive though.
Serious hill walking in the north of the island.

Arran is actually a great shout. Auchrannie resort in Brodick, 100 yards from Brodick golf course. Cracking track, short but fun with stunning views to Goatfell and a couple of great par 3's over the tidal Rosa Burn.

Corrie is also cracking, 9 holes with stunning views. Avoid the rough as its full of Adders.

Lamlash is also a nice track a bit more strenuous but a nice place to whittle away an afternoon or an evening with great views over the Holly Isle.

The best on the island for me is Shiskine.

This is a must play for everyone who plays golf. Its golf porn and only 12 holes!!!!

If you want class championship golf you can also get the ferry off the North end of the Island over to the Mull of Kintyre and take in either Machrihanish or Machrihanish Dunes.

Lots of good walking on Arran, some decent pubs and grub.

I would like to cast my vote for Arran aswell. Stunningly beautiful island and as Crawford says, the golf courses are pretty good with Shiskine being the jewel in the crown. We did it on a family camping holiday last year and loved it. The say Arran is Scotland in miniature as it has all the scenery packed onto the island. Class place
