... I'm back to square one. Playing rugby yesterday and was tackled late by someone on the opposition, as he unnecessarily pulled me to the ground my foot got stuck in the mud causing my leg to twist and hyperextend, well been to hospital today and they reckon I've torn a ligament in my knee, so no golf for at least 3 weeks. Absolutely gutted, had just about ironed out some swing flaws and now I can't play, thought about trying to do some chipping but hit 2 balls and went hone, absolute agony :( arghh so frustrating!

Sorry for the rant, had to get it off my chest...

Look on the bright side. Get Chrimbo and the new year out of the way and you're into 2012 with lighter nights approaching. The rest might help and you can go back fresher. Don't rush back and compound the problem but once you get the green light why not get a refresher lesson. That'll iron out any remaining flaws and give you a solid foundation to start next season

I guess so, the refresher lesson sounds like a good idea, at first I wasn't too upset as I thought seeming as I can't hit the range or course I could really work on my chipping and putting, but I'm struggling to stand at the moment let alone swing a club, I'd also booked a session with my pro to try some irons but I've cancelled that now, what you say is very true there just doesn't seem like a lot to look forward to right now!

I feel your pain I did this last October playin footy. Had an op and now can't play ever again. You done well to try golf all ready I was on crutches for 2weeks after te injury then limped around till my op. Struggled to play golf till my op as I couldn't walk down hills properly and on steep inclines my mates had to hold on to me as it used to give out haha.

I was very lucky, my mate did pretty much the same thing last year and ended up with a broken leg, and now has to have metal pins in it for the rest of his life, on the bright side I got a £15 get well soon pro shop voucher from my boss which was a nice touch

Is it your right or left knee? I did my right and when first played about a month after I struggled with knee flex and had to have a very army swing. Took me a while to get out of it but it's all about confidence again in your knee. Can I recommend to you swimming and cycling for rehab! And make sure you do the exercise's given to you by your physio. If you want any info just drop me a message

rather break a bone than have ligament damage.

Left knee, the physio said it wasn't a rupture so I don't need an op but will still be out for a while, why would you rather break a bone? cheers for the recommendations when I can get about a bit more easily ill definetely start doing some swimming and cycling :)

i actually ruptured my ACL. A break heals better than a ruptured ligament and is done and dusted in about 6 weeks. I also tore my cartlidge so had some of that removed. My ACL pretty much healed itself which they seen via an MRI scan and the op a vast improvement. I still have problems with the knee and cant run anymore for more than about 15meters till it twinges. Ive broken a bone in my forearm before and never had problems with it since, If you only hyperexstended youve been lucky although it still does hurt like hell but should clear it self over next month or so. Just remember plenty of Rest Ice Compression Elevation. Like Homer said though dont rush things and let the it heal fully as you can risk making it worse. Just out of curiosity did he give you any exercises/strengthening things and give you a big rubber band type thing? or do you have a follow up appointment?

Swimming is good exercise as its none weight bearing and gets you moving your leg fully whilst being supported by the water

No he didnt I'm seeing the physio on sunday so hopefully he can give me something to do as I haven't been given anything, the ligament I did is next TO the ACL and I'm glad I didn't do that one as it would have required an op, thankfully the doc said it was a minor tear and not a rupture, they said that for somthing like this although it is very painful theres not a lot they can do and they just said rest and ice is the best thing for it

yeah thats why i prefer a break. They can help fix that, but a soft tissue injury all depends on your own bodies ability to heal and you not putting to much stress on to it while its damaged. Without sounding obnoxious your a young chap still so should be back to normal quite qucikly.

well good luck with it anyway bud. Keep us updated on things also take your putter to ya room and lay a cup down ay least it gives you something to do when at home bored.

Cheers connor :) im pretty fit and healthy so as long as I don't do anything silly it should heal as fast as it can, hopefully by the time I'm fit all that bedroom practice will result in no more 3 putts! :)

lol I could become as course designer, could charge people to play the best bedroom green in the world :D

I'm now officially on the waiting list to have both big toes fused together, will be out for 3-4 months when I get the operation.

However the good Dr Ray assures me that the bone will fuse in 6-8 weeks so hope to at least get back to hitting pitches after that, work up to full shots after that if I can.
