Played a matchplay tonight against a guy off 3 at Tytherington golf club and ive just seen another world of golf. The guy was just silly good. Biggest hitter ive ever seen and i just couldnt stay with him at all even with 12 shots off him. I was only one over handicap when we finished on the 13th after a 6&5 demolition. He was on every par 5 in two easily and within 15 feet every time, he was on one 490 yard par 5 with 2 iron shots and was only 10 feet away

He was 4 under gross when we finished and i wasnt suprised when he told me he was playing in the county championships starting tomorrow

Different game

That's pretty good shooting by you on a strange course (presumably).

And rather good shooting by your opponent!

Some days you've just got to accept that you've been thrashed by someone in form. Bides well for his County Champs prospects!

Course was 6500 yards so a bit longer than im used too so i thought i battled well to the score i had but he really did play well.

He was a really nice lad too and we had a good chat on the way round.

The handicap system causes these anomalies, when your a cat 1 there is easily a chance of going low. But to get to those handicap values you have to play too many rounds ... Hence when I used to play scratch matchplay I was never concerned about playing anyone lower than me, I knew the difference would be small. I just could not play the number of competitions required to drop my handicap.

Hard lines mate. Tytherington is tough from the back pegs. Sounds like there was nothing you could have done. Somedays you just got to tip your cap to your opponent.

Exactly that mate. Nothing i could of done even with my best :D

He did say handicaps travel well from there. Funnily enough i played a guy from there in round before and he was off 14 but was way better imo. Only beat him because of a red hot putter and Davyhulmes dog legs :D

So you are saying they should be pretty competitive in Medals then! :D

I think tha way too. Jut the comparitive few of them that distorts the stats for Medal winners imo!

Hi Scott

What was his name, I might know him from when I managed our scratch team as we used to play them. As has been said it's a tough test of golf around there and even tougher when you haven't played it before. Oh and I was surprised that he has got into the county champs playing of 3? I may be wrong!

Yes Scott I do know him nice lad I remember, and I was wrong about him getting in to the county champs H/C limit is 7. There a good few of our lads in this too.

Yeah he was a nice lad and we had loads to talk about which kept the round flowing etc. I will be interested to see how he gets on the in the county champs :D

i dunno if you have done it but if you take your lowest scratch scores of the cat 1 s you'll see how close they really are. Putting a Cat 2 in the mix kind of sways the stats as they can be brilliant or rubbish ..

Win or Lose, thats all that matters.....

Sometimes its just great to watch good golf, and yes, those lads off 3 or below are a different league.
We got thrashed in our 1st Round in the Nike Matchplay, - one of the lads was off 3 too, and he alone was -4 after 15,
- shake their hand, have a beer, lovely night. Its just a game.

I like this...

Don't wanna mention his name on an open forum but check here, im sure you can work it out. He was some player and wont be out of place in the county champs for sure.

I enjoy how you don't want to mention his name on the open forum, but don't mind sharing 16 names, and phone numbers ;)

(I appreciate it's different, in that you can't search his name and get this thread, but it made me chuckle)
