I used to play golf. Then I gave it up. Then I started again, But couldn't get around 9 holes in under 55, on a par 35 nine hole course ( Genuinely I couldn't ).

Then I had my stuff knicked and gave up for good.

That could have been my golfing life.

But I started getting those twitches we all suffer after too long away, and actually joined the forum on 30/3/09.

Basically 4 months ago.

I had no clubs, no game, no money, no idea. No chance.

I was a nomad crap hacker with urges that my lady just didn't understand.

Then a complete stranger offered to loan me his backup set of clubs. Wow. You just don't get people like that in the modern world.

So about mid April I got out onto the driving range. By early May I could hit it a bit, so I tried the practice putting green. And I played a couple of solo 9 holes, and eventually a solo 18 holes.

Ok, I was hooked ( again )

Since then I've played some great courses, and met up a few times with some great golfers, who also happen to be great company.

I'm showing glimpses of what I want to achieve, and as always with this game, the more I glimpse the potential, the more I feel the frustration.

I'm not going to mention names, but I just wanted to say thank you to the guys that have got me this far. It's been such a pleasure for me, and I WILL repay all the faith that has been shown.

Without this forum, and the guys on it, I'd have taken up gardening or fishing instead.

I'm chuffed.

Absobloodylutely Chuffed to bits.

We know that you have got the ability. All you have to do is believe us and believe in yourself.

Stop talking your game down. As one of my earlier sigs said ......

"Those who believe they can and those who believe they can't, they are both right."

Get out there and enjoy the moment. The scores will come. Its clear you share the passion of everyone on here but don't worry about your scores and love the game for what it is, a series of constant frustrations punctuated my a fleeting moment of skill and beauty

I'm not trying to put myself down.

I'm just saying that whatever I have achieved over the last few months would be absolutely nothing without this forum, and the people on it.

Just trying to say a big thank you without getting too soppy.

We all say when things are bad.

Well, for me, this place has proven to be an oasis in one huge great personal thunderstorm.

As Roger says Clive, you have definitely got the game in you. Every so often you produce a shot that a single figure golfer would be proud of, and they happen too frequently to be "luck".
I've only played with you twice, but on both occasions you have shown that you have good natural ability, a decent rythm and the ability to hit a long, straight ball.
I think what he meant by talking your game down is that you set out with the mentality that you are not good enough which simply isn't the case. More "positive" thoughts will get you there. You have the shots and ability to get down to 12 or 13 handicap with no problem whatsoever.

I'm genuinely chuffed for you CrapHacker. 5 years ago I was struggling to break 95 so I know how you feel. The boys on here will keep you right. And it might even be fun too. The moniker will change in no time.

Like I said somewhere else. If I get anywhere near 12, I wanna see you off single figures ;).

There's no way I'm within ( or will be even if my driver ever works ) a couple of shots of you. :p
