Don't know how it happened but took a swing with my 8 iron and watched the bottom half of my club travel further than the ball!

Looks like a clean break and cannot see any signs of an imperfection, think its down to hacking out of the rough to much.

Clubs a Mizuno JPX EZ forged with a TrueTemper XP105 shaft, any advice on costs to reshaft? - i presume this is the best option as want to keep the matching serial numbers for the heads rather than purchase a new club.

Cheers all.

Not a particularly new club I presume?

I'd still get in touch with Mizuno in the first instance, it is a strange occurence (assuming there's nothing you aren't telling us of the club abuse nature....) and see what they say.

Otherwise, go via a local pro.

Don't think that was a standard shaft in those irons according to reference material (which may have implications in any discussions with Mizuno) Anyhow gamola have xp105s so just order one from them together with any appropriate ferrule and a bit of epoxy. Read their advice on reshafting an iron and bobs your uncle. Otherwise find a pro to do it.
Cost price on the shaft is around 30, postage around 7, so don't expect a pro to be quoting a tenner to reshaft it!

XP105 was THE standard shaft in the EZ Forged. I know this as it was me that bought these irons and sold them to Jon.
Jon, a 14 month old shaft shouldn't snap of it's own accord so would be looking toward a manufacturer fault. If the head had flown off at the hosel then fair enough but not snapping a shaft with no other damage.
Contact Mizuno and see what they say, they have been good with me in the past when other issues have arisen. Never known a shaft to snap though.

This happened to me years ago. The inside of the shaft had rusted from me fully submersing the clubs when cleaning. Any rust that you can see?

Thanks for the reply all and to Greig whom sold me the irons.

The shaft snapped approx 6" below the grip and literally fell apart on the shot i was playing, to be honest i'm fairly new to this and have been in the rough stuff quite a lot so may have been me hacking out over the last few months, the weird thing is this club is by far my strength and has become a focal point and the but of all the banter as i can hit it nearly as long as any other club and longer than my mates on the lower number clubs!

I was going to go to Snainton in the morning and may still do, but i may hold off and message Mizuno to see what they say.

Again thanks for all the replys, i will update when i have an update.

Jon

Never had a shaft snap on me yet, It must feel so horrible to see it snapped especially when your at the course too

I bent my 5iron last weekend.

Ordered new shaft and grip, pulled shaft (heat gun) cut new shaft to length, reused old ferrul and glue it in using araldite. Done in 20mins. Cost me about £25 in total.

Local shop quoted me £25 shaft, £15 fitting and that's before any grip.

Also strangely fulfilling doing it yourself.
HOwever, sounds like you should get it replaced for free by mizuno.
