Never again...
Played 36 around Hankley Common yesterday and I am absolutely shattered this morning. Legs ache, arms ache. My ankles are killing me and I feel like I've been 10 rounds with Mike Tyson.
Just got to finally accept that old age has finally caught up with me and in future will limit myself to 18, maybe 27 but NEVER 36 again.
I played really well in the morning, hitting the ball superbly with both my woods and irons. Some of the irons in particular were fizzing. But after about 9 or 10 holes in the afternoon I was starting to flag. The "zip" had gone from my game, and because of that it was all becoming too much of an effort. I was beginning to lose interest despite playing on a superb course.
So 18 "quality" holes from now on, rather than 36 "mediocre" ones.

I'm with you Smiffy - 36 has long gone. Played 27 last friday and regretted it that night and the next morning.
Unless you're fairly fit the 2nd round becomes a waste of time.

I am still happy doing 36, but only in the right weather, and certainly not carrying. That said, I am only 44. On the slippery slope, but still near the top.

Absolutely !

We do manage 36 Holes on our fella's Golf weekend for one day, but WITH Buggies, and thats bad enough !
Otherwise, for me, 18 with a Powakaddy on a knackered left knee is as much as it will take these days.

I'm 53 now Murph, and it's sad to think that only 8 or 9 years ago I would have gladly walked 36 holes a day, carrying as well! I'm now using an electric trolly, which does save my knees, but it's my ankles more than anything these days. They are shot to bits.
Mid 90's we were going to Scotland and walking 36 holes a day for 6 days on the trot...carrying!
We laughed about it then saying that in 20 years time we would still be going up there but only playing 9 holes a day and using zimmer frames. Unfortunately, time is catching us up.
I'm playing four rounds over three days in Cornwall this coming week-end. But I will be using a buggy that's for sure.

Just wait till Steve, Jon and I play 36 at Dundonald next week, at over 7000 yards thats gonna be fun!!!

So. That's blown The Addington out next year then? :( Not to mention the 36 holes over both courses at Sundridge that I was thinking of organising next month. Still, I'm sure that there will be plenty of takers both younger and older - I know that several of your mates will be up for it if places available.

WIMP. :p

Errr....buggies are available at both venues are they not Rog????
I meant "I won't be walking 36 holes again"....
;)

Wimp - 4 rounds in one day against the might of HTL and only lost by a point. Carried all the way. Actually I hurt like buggery the next day so it was a one off for charity and unlikely to get repeated. I have a 36 hole medal coming up just after I get back into golf. I plan to carry AM and switch to my trolley PM in case the battery won't cope with 36 (only an 18 hole battery)

What is the handicap reduction for using a buggy?
It used to be 2 shots off per 9 holes.
That puts you off 8 Rob :D

Smiffy, you'll be glad to know that Highwoods G.C. are installing some of these around their clubhouse :D

It's a breeze ,am playing some pitch and putt course next thursday called Dundonald its only 7200 yards ,36 on there no probs :)
Have put 999 in my phone to get me home tho.

sounds familiar. in the mid 90s i was playing 36 everyday, carrying!
the last time i walked 36 holes was 2 years ago before knee surgery. doubt i have the stamina for 36.

last year i played 36 three times but riding a buggy makes it easier :D

Whatever happened to the hazy sunny days of my youth, when I used to play 27 in the morning, stop for lunch, and then play another 27 in the afternoon? 2 or 3 times a week.

I'm knackered after 36 now, and I'm only 42. I suppose that's what you get for trying to hit every shot at 110%.
