Hi there,

I have only played a couple of games (which I have enjoyed) and been a handful of times to the driving range with a friend..

I have really wanted to have a hobby that will get me out and about, and have made excuses about being too far from anywhere to play with friends. So my wife, as a birthday present has treated me to a professional 30 minute golf taster session, so I'll able to ask questions and get some instruction from someone who knows what they are talking about. She suggested that if I enjoy it that she will get me a block of 5/6 for me to continue in the hope that I can enjoy and improve (plus join some friends who play quite regularly, without swinging for a ball and closing my eyes last minute :)).

My brother in law was kind enough to lend me a 10+ year old basic set of golf clubs, and as a starter for me, will do fine.

So just thought I would join and say Hi there :)

Recently relocated to Potters Bar, Herts so closer to several places and really looking forward to taking this further.

Cheers,
Chris P

Welcome along. Block session of lessons is the best way of starting off. Don't worry too much about the gear at this stage (unless it is in very poor condition) but learn the fundamentals, work on the drills you are shown and get out and play where and when you can. Plenty on here from your neck of the woods

Hello and welcome, enjoy. Plenty of help and advice around here get stuck in.

Great idea having lessons from the off saves getting into bad habits.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum:cheers:
After a few more rounds you'll probably hate the game. But by this time it'll be too late & you'll be hooked.

Greetings,

Many thanks to everyone who was replied. I appreciate the help and support.

As someone who works in IT, I know a lot about patience and frustration ;-).

I am a little nervous and excited as I have never had a lesson/taster but I presume it would be in the trainers interest that I get as much out of it as I get in, so should be good :) I guess it is a little different when playing with friends as there will be a point where they would just let me carry on to the next hole/give up/lose some patients - I personally haven't experienced this, but can understand that it could happen.

The last thing I want to end up doing is having "All the gear, no idea" (unless my wife paid for it ;-)) - I will post my feedback tomorrow. I am not sure if it would be appropriate to name the trainer or the place/course I will be attending, so I best keep it to myself and pm anyone who is interested.

Thank you once again for the welcome.

Cheers,
Chris P

If you are in IT you must be loaded, so go and spunk a lot of money on a new set of clubs that will give you the maximum forgiveness.

Don't worry about being 'all the gear, no idea', as that phrase is only said by sad saps who didn't study hard enough at school and can't afford any new stuff. Plus there is an awful snobishness in golf in that you have to be so good to buy expensive equipment. Which is rubbish. After all, you cant take it with you....;)

Not 100% sure what you are inferring, but if it is that I buy loads of golf gear, the best quality balls and various training aids, despite the fact that I struggle to break 100 most of the time, then guilty as charged. And proud of it. ;)

Oh, I get it now, hacker kanni take it with you. To subtle for me sir.

Don't worry, no offence taken, I only get offended by the sexist racist bigotory posted on here.;)

Plus I honestly do waste a lot of money on golf stuff and am pretty crap at it. If you look in the dictionary for 'all the gear no idea' then there is a picture of me.
