So just back in from my round, 4th round at my new club and finally broke 100 for the first time this season.

The experimental side is this, I had my iPod in the whole round listening to a chilled out album (Mumford and Sons - Sigh No More) and I have got to say, it kept me calm the whole way round. It allowed me to switch off inbetween shots while I listened to the songs and then I could either a) take out head phones to take the next shot (done this a couple of times for puts) or b) block it out mentally while taking my next shot (as it was a chilled album it was pretty easy to do).

This came from a recommendation from a guy at work, anyone else do this? Think I will be doing this everytime I head out on my own!

The round itself as I said is the best i've shot this season, (im usually a mid to low 90s player, only ever shot under 90 twice I think) I have managed to get my Driving straight - still the odd slice/hook though! A lot of my higher scores (had 2x7s and a 9 on the card) were due to my wedge play/putting, it needs a lot of work. But from tee to around 50 yard mark I am feeling confident, I might consider taking Irons off tees now to leave me a longer Iron into the green, maybe a 6 or 7!

Anyway pretty chuffed with myself today, just thought I'd share!

I don't think I would ever do this apart from at a driving range.

What do you do if someone shouts fore??? You can't hear them and really would be putting your health/life at risk for the sake of listening to some music.

I'm pretty confident it was turned down low enough to hear someone shout fore. I was still able to hear the drives of people a few holes away from me and the sound of cars on the Edinburgh City Bypass. I had it low enough as I wanted to 'block' the music out when taking my shot.

Don't listen to music but I find singing along in my ore shot routine takes my mind away from swing faults. I get strange looks from my partners as I sing along to anything from old Motown through to early 2000 dance classics. It weirds them even more when you bomb one up the middle while singing along..... Great for matchplay too

is that what the awful row was?

So OS, what did you do with the money .....? You know .... the money your mum gave you for the singing lessons?

i couldnt listen to music on the course. im there to take it the views and also curse all the way up to my next shot.

Oh no, wouldnt fancy listening to music while i play! I like to hear the birds tweet, hear my playing partners, hear people shouting fore and most of all listening to my clubs swing and the noise the club makes when it contacts with the ball. That tells me if its a good shot!!

I think you can reach a zen like state without music! :ooo:

great point !!

Use it when playing on your own by all means, but I wouldn't play with anyone who had an Ipod stuck in his ears. To me, golf is a social game and there is nothing more anti-social than an Ipod. Don't use it when playing with others, otherwise you will quickly find yourself running out of people to play with.

I agree 100% with it being a social game, I even took my headphones out and went out my way to speak to a few folk on the course today who were a few holes a head of me (trying to meet new faces in the club). It will only ever be used on my own, low enough to hear my swing/connection and people shouting at me to get out the way! I'm a big music lover, probably why it helps me concentrate and keeps me calm.
