Didnt score well at all (shot over 100), but was happy with how i was striking the ball, just forgot how to score and hit a few out of bounds. I still havent broke 100 off the whites at my club but i'm sure it wont be long judging by this. Anyone who knows me on here will know i've not been having a good time on the course lately but this is a round that i am really positive about. The weather was lovely, my playing partner was good company and all in all i really enjoyed the day.

I do however have a question.....

What's more enjoyable, striking the ball and swinging well but not scoring to great or one of them days where you know you're not swinging or playing great but still manage to score well?

I agree with Andy. If you are hitting your irons nicely you can always go away thinking that if you keep it up a good round is not far away where as if you shoot a good score whilst not swinging well you will go away thinknig that you were lucky and slightly frustrated that you weren't playing well thinking 'what could have been'.

Have to say, 'Playing the good shots' but not necessarily having a low score round...

If you hitting the ball well, a good score will come, and i alsways feel positive (Or did so in the past when playing regularly).

Riding lady luck, may be fine for a round or two, but luck will not always be with you.

So a higher score card but getting positive feel and swing, wins out for me.

And really pleased for you, that you are enjoying your game.

At my level I judge the success of a round almost wholely on how I am striking the ball. If I am striking it well then I feel that I am improving and the scores will come but if I am striking it badly then I feel frustrated irrespective of the end result.

Naturally enjoy striking the ball well irrespective of the score-however with scorecard in hand and if i am striking poorly i will take getting the bal in the hole in the least number of shots no matter how they go in.

A little quote-"We dont draw pictures just write numbers on the scorecard".

Scorecards paint no pictures. Ultimtely I'm happier shooting as low as I can. HID must be getting fed up of me coming home saying how well I hit the ball but couldn't score.

Can you really reconcile good ball striking with a good score anyway. OK I grant you if you are hitting it well and hitting most fairways and greens you are going to score well regardless, but how many of us have hit the ball really well but either just missed fairways making the approach much harder or struck irons really well only to see them go into the bunker or miss the green short or long.

I have had a number of rounds recently where I have hit the ball really well but haven't hit enough greens and have lost out because my short game is under too much pressure. Was I happy after. Well yes up to a point but I'd rather plod it round badly and play to my handicap (especially in comps) than hit it great and end up in the buffer zone or worse

Difficult question.

I love striking the ball well, and am never happy scrambling. On the other hand, if I don't shoot my handicap, I am not going to be happy either.

Both please.

there is little to beat the feeling of a really well struck ball, especially when the end result is its equal.

(you all know the one; the butter shot that you don't even feel leave the club but just sails majestically straight out before you.)

but there is a real ego boost from a well thought out or hard worked scramble.
