Hey guys just purchased a membership at my local course as they dropped in price to try encourage new people down its my first time as a member and I'm looking forward to getting a handicap and entering comps but is there anything else I should do what advice would you give me so I don't look a fool they do a volunteer thing on Tuesdays where people turn up and tidy the course with little odd jobs so I'm looking to get down to that but what other things could I do?? Also any tips for my first comp?

Look in the Pro shop each time you go and have a chat. Ditto the bar staff. Say morning/afternoon as you pass members. In other words get yourself recognised and enter comps.

Replace the divots green side up!

Other than that just enjoy yourself, many lifetime friendships are developed on the golf course. As you are volunteering straight away I am sure you will be seen as a good egg.

To be serious - be yourself and don't try too hard. Join in whenever you can and before you know it you will have a second home. Also, speaking as ex golf club bar staff - always be cheerful and TAKE YOUR EMPTY GLASS BACK TO THE BAR - that way you will always guarantee a friendly welcome and prompt service.

Great advice. And thumbs up on the glass thing, it's not much effort is it! I always do it, leave the place as you would like to find it, chairs replaced, table tidy, glasses returned.

but if you have seriously tasty barmaids with short skirts and big smiles who like to come to the table and reach over to get your glasses it would be rude not to allow them the satisfaction of doing the job they enjoy, now would it? You don't want to put them out of work now do you? Think Rooter....THINK!

Sorry Jedi master, you are correct.

Get stuck in.

Buy your gear in the pro shop.

Take lessons from the pro.

Play in competitions.

Play with anyone and everyone.

Be happy and cheerful.

don't forget to call the CAPTAIN mate when you see him and the LADY CAPT.darling and give her a friendly slap on the backside when passing,it is the norm to wear old denim and scuffed trainers to accompany your footy top when having a few to many in the club house and yes you can sit in the big ornate chair in the club house, wolf whistling and shouting out sexist remarks to the young girls waiting on the tables is compulsory, but under no circumstance ask the chef for ketchup.
