Today our course was hosting the Notts PGA pro am comp.

me and a couple of pals had booked in to play a nine hole comp 10 mins after the PGA comp.

On arrival I went straight to the lavvy for a no1. Whilst stood there I said to the guy who was stood at the side of me doin the same. "how's the course look" the course was tinned two weeks ago, so I was interested to see how it was. He says rather abruptly, "I don't know". Nothing else but "I don't know". It wasn't what he said but the way he looked down upon me and said it. I said "oh you have not played yet then". He said "No". And agin it was the way he said it. I was seething.

now don't get me wrong , I have read on here loads of times about members at clubs being arses, friendly, and somewhere in between, etc etc. I was fully aware he was a visitor and as a member you should go, out of your way to be friendly and promote your club. Which I did, but he was a grade one DICK.

Proper rubbed me up the wrong way he did.

Why hey be like that?

He was going to the toilet ?! Maybe small talk wasn't the thing on his mind at that time

You're right to some extent. It costs nothing to be well mannered. The flip side is you don't know what the guy has on his mind. Who knows what he was dealing with, maybe nothing and he was just rude, or maybe trying to cope with devastating news?
I tend to give people the benefit these days.

Striking up conversation with a stranger in the bog?

George Michael got caught out wae that once.

;)

Or maybe he was just trying to pee

Sorry got to agree.

Going for a pee and some stranger starts some irrelevant chat right next to me, I wouldn't be overly keen on it.

So you were standing at the urinals and he looked down at you? Oh dear, a gentleman would have kept his eyes up.

Anyway, maybe he saw something which left him short of words.

If your life is such that a curt exchange with a stranger in the gents is enough of a shocker to stimulate a forum post for all the world to see, I guess the rest of your life must be pretty good.

Etiquette section says

No Disturbance or Distraction

Players should always show consideration for other players on the course and should not disturb their play by moving, talking or making unnecessary noise.

As on the course, so in the urinals. ;) :D

Without knowing how many urinals were in play and where each player was stood in relation to them, it is impossible to give a ruling.

If the OP can fill us in on these details we may be able to seek clarification of the correct etiquette from the R&A (Royal Armitageshanks) in due course.

Craigg you have hit the nail on the head, I had just left a pal of mine 20 mins earlier. I have not seen him in a year since he was made redundant. When I left him he was sat in a wheelchair right arm in a sling. Face and body bloated from the chemo and radiotherapy he has has from the brain tumour they found 4 months ago. He has 6 months tops to live. I left there having had a good trip down memory lane with him and two others. They both thanked me for goin as others who he worked with for years don't want to see him.
i drove to the golf, thinking am gonna enjoy this round. It emphasised what I already knew through my job ( medical attendant last ever in Notts) that you cannot put things off. I was gonna enjoy today which I did, and the first person I talk to struggled to say four words to me.

Always thought that if your name is Armitage, and you have a bad case of the Sherman's, using the loos at most golf clubs must be tough for the confidence.
