I played with my mate Davina (dave) last night off the reds and well what can I say.. I shot 8 under Gross and he (she) shot 12 under.

So from now on I will be playing in the ladies section.. we are 6 and 5 handicaps as men but unsure what we will be as ladies.

Nice shooting ladies :)

Whats the yardage and par differences between white and red?

its about only 1000 yards, but on the 5 par 5 off the red on the back 9. where you tee from on there you carry all the trouble and catch a down slope which along with the wind last night added 60-70 yards to you drive.

We both eagled the 10th whic was a drive and a SW and Davina had just a chip on. on the 12 we both though we had lost the ball but they were so far down we were almost on the green same with 18.

nice way to get used to the "under par feeling" . I tend to freeze a little if I go under par early in the round. I just keep thinking, don't blow it, don't blow it, which leads to blowing it. lol

no an issue as i didn't go underpar untill the 7th then went, Birdie, birdie, birdie.. eagle

other way round... but how often t you get a tap in eagle.

Seldom.

To be honest, when I read your post I thought the ladies at Nairn must get a raw deal with a significantly easier course but, looking on the web, that's not easy at all. 466 yards is a three shotter for most - certainly for me; on a good day I might be chipping for my third shot! From what you describe though, you two were hitting it miles off the tee.

Be honest now - did you play better than normal? Did conditions help?

On the back 9 its was easier, with a strong tailwind, but saying that the main easier holes are the all the par 5's on the back 9 and from the ladies tee's we could carry the ball to a downslope on 10, 12, 18 which gave a big kick.

5th i just hit 3 ihybride short of the bunkers, Dave still tried to drive the green and almost managed and that was into the wind.

8th i just hit 3 H again as the other night i was thought the back with the 17 deg, just front edge 2 put birdie, 9th 17 deg almost on the green.

i the par 3 were all short irons even the 2 into the wind which from the mens tee would be a long iron or hybrid.

I suppose you could be unluck as you could reach bunkers off the red you would not have a hope in hells chance of doing off the mens, whic is what happened to my drive off 13, but its a par 5 for the ladies so just splashed out still only had a wedge to the green and could have had birdies there if i could sink a left to right putt;)

It's pretty good scoring, I reckon. By my rough calculation you were ten shots better than your handicap (using men's SSS rather than ladies) so about 13 shots better than your average (as per CONGU expectation of average score). For a course that's "only" 700 yards shorter.

Lots of factors, clearly. For example, if the course is well-designed there will be hazards off the red tees that affect the ladies drives and presumably you just blasted over them.

Obviously, you'd expect decent male players to shoot lower from the reds than from the tees your own handicaps are measured from but I must admit you're several shots lower than I would have expected. Good effort! :)

However.... no way... would you see such a huge difference in scores between reds and whites at my course! We should get Stevie to give it a go!

I don't think you could take he mens SSS into account some of the reds take out the hazzards that are there for the tee shots off the whites.

True i have had a few goo scores of late, shot a gross 68 (sss 70 ) l two weeks ago at Moray new, so i'm able to put a better sore than my handicap would suggest on the odd occ, but theres usually and 87 in between.

Nothing to with my or daves scores , its just i had often wondered what sort of scores you could shoot of the red. distance wise its close to the mens winter course and that is a par 67 i think
, so that showes you.
