First of all I love Golf, it's full of ups and downs, highs and lows which I'm aware of and should know better.

Today was one of those lows. I've been playing well of late and have been shooting around the 92-93 mark which isn't bad after only playing around 10 times in 2 years prior to 2011. I set the stall out saying I'm going to hit 90 at Matfen, but this was an ideal and not a definitive MUST. I couldn't have been further from the truth, hitting 110. Now Matfen GC isn't easy but nothing warrants that kind of score.

The most frustrating this is that I know I can do it, I can hit a 300 yard drive or pitch a 100 yarder to within a few foot of the pin and this really gets to me when I not only dont do this well but severly cock the shot up. My mind was well and truly out of it today and I just starting swinging fo the hell of it in a really bad mood until I finaly hitting a blinder after 4 bad holes and started to get my head back in the game.

A word was used today, being called erratic. Now I'm not upset by this as it is exactly what I was, with moments of magic and moments of absolut S**TE, Consistency just wasn't there.

Again I'm sorry for the rant but I'm very competitive and today I've been beaten severely :(

mate, i feel your pain! read my post, i shot 111!!! terrible game i had and know i can do A LOT better, like at least 10-12 shots better!! just wsnt going for me, that and i was nervous as hell!!

Tell me about it.

What a stupid game

Didn't play very well yesterday so decided to go to the practice ground and work on my swing. All was going well untill all of a sudden Sh*nk!
go so bad the houses on one side were in danger.

Gave up in the end, was sticking my stuff back in the car, a couple of guys I know
are heading to the first and ask me to join them for nine holes.
Anyway ended up playing 18, 5 over gross.

Not great but so much better.

No more practice for me now, not going to touch a club now till Machrihanish next week :D

thats golf Kev , just when you have a handle on it it bites back .. started double bogey ouch then parred 2-3-4-5. ok can play this game . bogey on 6 wasnt end of world & back on track with par on 7 . ok drive on 8 but a bit left , no bother its a par 5 get back on fairway & on in 3.. ha no chance hit it into the only fir bush on the cource which isnt even on the 8th hole . went down hill after doubling that,, but itl be to the range a couple of times this week & out again next weekend with the best of plans & hope ha ha chin up mate every golfer has been where you are now

thanks guys, nice to know I'm not the only one who had a stinker, otherwise it would be even worse.

Upon reflection, I could be accused of becoming too comfident after a good shot and trying to hit too big or hit unrealistic shots. I guess I should learn to reign myself in and stick to my game.

I'm playing a more familiar course this friday and hopefully things will be back to normal.

It happens. I played in a friendly matchplay yesterday with Hawkeye, our pro and a 25 handicapper and was doing OK. One bad shot at the 6th OB but just a bad swing and one bad shot at 7 (another poor execution) and would have been out in 17 points and we were one up and I'd done my bit with my shots to help win a few holes.

Terrible drive on 10, good recovery and then two duffed chips. Iffy contact on 11 to the front edge and an over zealous putt. Lost ball on 12 even though I hit it great. Headed towards the top of the large tree 100 yards off the tee but no-one heard it hit anything but no-one saw it land either. Another blow out on 15 before coming back with an up and down to win 16. Hit a wide at 17 (onto the 14th tee box) but made a par at the last. That is how to play erratic golf. No idea what happened but for the most part got it round even thought the ball striking was rubbish.
