i have just been told i can't play today !!!!

i arrived at my course at 6 am to have a warm up and tee off at 6.30 am , i went to book in and the lady in the office told me i can't play today as the course is closed because salford reds rugby club are spending the day training there , ( NOT HAPPY ).... iam a member of the club and pay over £500 a year and it seems my money is not as good as there money which i think stinks .... now i could understand it if it was a charity day or the course was closed whilst work being undertaken or adverse weather conditions ....

i will be on the phone later when there is somebody in a senior role there to vent my feelings . why should they get special treatment there only people at the end of the day ? and they are a crap rugby team

Cant see that they are going to be training all day!!
which club is it Happy? (Or not so Happy)

Was this pre-booked,is it in the club diary or is it a last minute thing.

Sorry

I always read your name as Happy

i also thought that they would not be there all day , there was a notice up in the clubhouse last week but it didnt give the reason it just said sorry for any inconvenience , i happened to forget about it so turned up nice and early as i could not sleep , the course is william wroe... its only a muni and the only reason i play there is because its only a ten minute walk and i dont drive ...... i think i will be cancelling my direct debit and join another club as i am moving house in the near future ... im sure in times of the credit crunch they should not be doing this so i will gladly take my money to a better club and they can stick it where the sun dont shine!!!! ruined my blody day

I wouldnt rejoin if the course is used for Rugdby training, what a mess the fairways and greens will be in after that! ;)

Rather than the course being closed I think the lack of notice is the problem.

A work mate joined Leeds Golf Club last year and was told then the course would be closed a couple of days last week because of a pro competition.

Hippy, I cant see the problem if you were going out before they were due to play. I take it that their there to play golf. If something like this happens at our course, if we're out very early there isn't a problem, well not one I've come across yet anyway. How much are the Rugby club paying your club for the day? If it's a free bee it might be a costly one if members start leaving because of them.
I would voice my disaproval and see what they have to say for themselves.

Don't see why you are upset if there was a notice up and you forgot its your problem, get over it.

What do you expect the club to do text everyone in case they are going to be playing that day.

If a closure is not in the club diary but subsequently invoked, i think that at least 2 hours should be reserved for members at the start of the day and again maybe at the end.
It is annoying when clubs take your membership fees and then give priority to society days and works hacker days at short notice. I know the revenue helps clubs but at the same time the members are usually there year in, year out.
The rubbish left and damage done to tees and fairways last time i followed a society round really hacked me off, but that's another topic altogether i suppose.

From what I can kind of make out, they did give notice, but the OP forgot about it? :D

But only a weeks notice? Especially at this time of year when folks are on holiday a weeks notice isn't really enough.

I can certainly see your point. I'm just not sure it warrants cancellation of a membership because they only gave a weeks notice that the course was closed for one day.

It seems this doesn't happen very often, or I'm sure HippyGilmore would have mentioned it. Personally I would find something else to do with my day.

I was going to have a round there today - they have Monday madness where its £5.50 a round I think. Decided against it because of the weather - would have been a wasted trip otherwise.

I'm confused (and still groggy from my op) but were they there to play golf or use the course and facilities to practice their rugby?? If its the latter then I think you have a legitimate complaint as a golf club isn't the right place irrespective of how much revenue they may bring in. If they ar on a golfing day and a notice was put up then I'm afraid its hard luck.

If you're moving anyway it might be nice to look for a new club anyway.

errm forgive me if i'm wrong but if you're a member at William Wroe, you're also a member at Altrincham as well?
You shoulda just driven to Alty (Which is a waaay better course than WW)
Oh and yeah WW is probably the chaviest Golf Course I've ever been round, I've played there 3 times an on all occasions the golfers in front of me have been walking around with cans of lager.
