Went into the pro shop to pick up my card for today's competition. Didn't recognise the other 2 names I was down to play with. Pro told me they were juniors. I played with a junior the other week in a comp and although a young kid I found him to be pleasant company as the 3 of us played our round.
Hung around the 1st and 2 young lads rolled up sporting some fantastic looking clobber. "They'd better be good playing in that get up" I thought.
With the introductions over we swapped cards and I saw that one was off 5 and the other off 4 !!!!

They played poorly by their own admission but I would have taken there scorecard anytime! One of the lads sulked a bit as his game wasn't behaving. The other kept cheery all the way round, even with a bad score.

The main point is, they were a pleasure to play a round with. I was the old giffer stranger in the group but they involved me in their conversation and we basically had a bit of good banter and chat as we went round.

Asking how they found the members one of them stated that the majority were pleasant but there were a few old members didn't give them time of day and were quite arrogant towards them because they were juniors. I thought this was a sad statement to hear. Juniors are the future of the club.
I would happily play with this pair of likeable young lads anytime. It's a shame many juniors get a rough ride at some golf clubs.

How do you find the juniors at your place?

Juniors are good at our place and are always a pleasure to play golf with in my experience. As you say when there is any grief towards them it is usually the old stagers who are the club champions at moaning

Regularly play with a few of the juniors at our place, theres a group of them who are treated as per any other member really. Club champs this year went down to the wire between 2 15 year olds - great to see imo

I believe we have the largest junior section in the area, and are recipients of the golf mark award.
This year our juniors were placed 1st, 3rd and 4th in the BDGA junior championships, a testament to everyone involved.
Juniors are the future and its great to see them on the course.
You get a few whingers, but i've found that if you pat them on their head, and tuck their blanket in, they soon forget what it was they were whinging about.

Same happened to me in the 2nd round of our club champs and I had an equally enjoyable experience. Lots of good juniors at our place and ive yet too meet or play with one thats impolite. I think its good to see a junior section thriving.

I was a junior couple years back at my place and got no respect till I broke into scratch team then people started been ok with me. But still give the others crap
They still do and I give juniors loads of support even was junior team manager this year and the older members were just plain rude towards them

I played in our captains texas scramble yesterday. My playing partners were a 12 year old junior playing off 27 and a new lady member age 62 years with a handicap of 32. Alas we never won but it was actually enjoyable playing with people that actually didnt get down when they played a bad shot............ and there was quite a few. On saying that they both played some excellent shots at times that made there day.
