My oldest lad (14) got his first handicap today, and our pro invited him to play with me in our comp tomorrow. He seems excited and cacking himself in equal quantities! I just wondered which tee should he play from, given that his h/c is worked out off the reds but obviously the men will all be of the whites?

Mmmm at 14 I would of thought the juniors would be off the yellow tees normally and whites tomorrow?

Best check with the club committee before playing, if he has to go off whites it's going to be a different game than the reds.....

Play with the big boys you do as the big boys do..................it will be a great experience for him and I'll bet you're one proud Dad, well done.

Our juniors go off the whites the same as us in all mixed comps but when you see some of them hit the ball  they could go off black tee's if we had them, we've some very good juniors.

What's his handicap?

Did the Pro suggest which tee?

45, not sure how they've got to that figure as he went round in 110 this morning but anyway, as long as he doesn't beat me...

I think thats the best approach, once we get going I'm sure he'll want to play off the same tees, if only to join in the banter! Theres probably only 5 holes on our course where there is a big difference between the reds and the whites anyway. Yes I am hugely proud and looking forward to it immensely:thup:

Our juniors play off the whites in all comps except the high handicap stablefords specifically for those higher than 28 where yellows or blues are used. My youngest just turned 13 and is playing off 19...... And shot 78 gross on Thursday.... That's 12 under handicap......

the key point here is that there are Junior handicaps, and there are juniors with CONGU handicaps (28 or better for boys) - it's easy to confuse the issues!

once any golfer, of any age, gets a CONGU handicap they are eligible to play in our club competitions - they play of the tees allocated to the competition!

in this instance I can't see how he can compete because he doesn't have a comparable handicap, so should play of the tees he's used to. Good experience, and no doubt he will be off 28 or better by the end of the summer holidays!

White tees at our club - in fact once they have a CONGU handicap they are told that ALL rounds (even bounce games) are off the whites.
