Ladies and Gents,

My son has now picked up the sticks again after two years of not being that bothered about playing. A mate of mine has given him a set of ladies clubs (Callaway Big Bertha) and the local pro has given him a ladies Cobra driver to try. His first round out he hit a 91 and since been under 90 regular (he is 11). He is starting some lessons as he asked if he could, so he did not develop any bad habits (he is a reasonable tennis player and appreciates practise is the way forward).

Question is :- are the ladies clubs OK or should I be looking for some branded junior clubs as he hits a junior 3 wood very well and I wondered if the ladies clubs could be just a little too heavy ??

Hit em straight .........ish

My little nephew moved from his junior clubs to a set with Ladies shafts in them when he as about 12 so it may be that they are about right for that age. Depends on other factors but it seemed about the right age for him to move on from his junior Ping clubs.

It sounds as if he's doing fine with what he has. When I looked after our Juniors there were several using ladies clubs as they grew and changed to full sized clubs around 12-13 as they got taller and stronger. If in doubt ask the pro who's teaching him.

The basic differences between ladies and mens clubs are

The heads are lighter
The shafts are shorter
The shafts are lighter
The grips are thinner
The lies are flatter

Ladies clubs are generally better for young players than mens cut down to the right length. It does depend upon height a hand size mainly eg when my son was 13 he was already taller than me so totally unsuited to ladies clubs.
