Just over a week left until August and after August I class the golf season as over.

Today I was invited by a friend to join him at Glasgow Gailes. I left the house this morning at 0830 wearing a compression top and golf shirt. At Gailes I had to add a short sleeved windstopper top as soon as I got out of the car and by the back 9 I was wearing my waterproof jacket!

Honestly this simply is not acceptable at the end of July! I've had shorts on twice this year on the golf course! Quite enjoy exposing my legs to all but not to get frostbite in July.

On the plus side Gailes was in impeccable condition. Greens were like billiard tables and the presentation was top class. Also managed to win my lunch. Happy day weather apart!

Golf season over at the end of August??! It's not cricket, there's plenty of decent golf to be had in September and October, sometimes even November!

I think he is talking about Scotland... though we do have golf comps well into Oct the nights start getting darker from now on and some parts have not had much of a summer yet..

On the up side it was great here today... i had shorts on and a tee shirt at lunchtime.

Yeah tbf you can still get some solid golf in during September and a fair few rounds in October. Some good offers can be found October time at some top courses. I usually find September the best time of year to play links courses especially with them 'firming up' over summer (summer, what summer!?)

My brother in law is a member at Gailes and reckons its playable all year. I usually play untill the clocks change and mean to practice after that but never quite seem to get around to it.
Wet and windy this morning though.

Links courses generally are playable 365.

I am feeling your pain with this summer. However I find it quite playable into October, then it's the occasional game during the winter.

I usually aim to squeeze some cuts from the comps near the end of summer when the rains return and soft greens are back in action. swing should be well oiled by then and if not the short game should be at its best.

Always still time to get a cut right up until the fat lady sings and comps finish.
