Many of you will remember that I was one of the lucky few to get a jpx850 driver for review courtesy of gm and mizuno earlier in the year.... and that I didn't particularly get on with it.

Not that I didn't like it, just that it didn't quite match the performance of my X2 Hot.

Anyway, I played 9 holes tonight and seem to have somehow cracked the shaft of the callaway driver! Not sure how that could happen but I doubt it's going to help the performance of the club..

So, tomorrow I'm playing a comp at Carnoustie and the JPX850 is in the bag for its first competitive outing. Not the course I would choose to break in a new driver but not much option...

Oh and I played rubbish tonight so confidence is low!

When you don't expect owt, that's usually when it clicks. The Mizzy will step up to the plate for you.

Best of British in the comp.

There's no doubt about it, that is one tough golf course. Wind wasn't even too bad today, although it did play a part. It's a fair test but you need all aspects of your game in decent shape to score and too much of mine was misfiring today.

But the JPX fared pretty well in its first outing since my swing changes have settled down. The only problem was that I'd previously been getting a very low ball flight so had it cranked up to 11.5 degrees loft - as a result I was sending it far too high and losing distance. pretty good accuracy too, even the seemingly bad swings managed to mostly find some part of the fairway.... Just too many in fairway bunkers though!

Looking forward to reducing that loft and giving it another go......

Glad it worked and hope once you find a setting you like, that it keeps working well Are you getting the other one fixed?

Yeah, I'll take it into AG to see what they and Callaway have to say about it. But, must admit, after reducing the loft on the mizuno and playing 18 tonight it's really growing on me... Hit some cracking drives and it just feels so much better off the face than it did with my "work in progress" swing earlier in the year.

I had an issue with my xhot drop. Emailed Callaway and was told to take it to my closest retailer and sent a list of the nearest.

Took it to ag on the sat.
They couriered it to callaway on the monday.
I was called on the tuesday to collect my brand new x2hot pro. Newer version than I had.

I had heard callaway had amazing customer sevice and was not disappointed.

Yeah, they've already had this one back to fix an issue with the hosel. This seems a bit more severe, though, a new shaft needed rather than a bit of glue . I'll be interested to see what happens but the way I've started to hit that jpx850 I'm feeling less urgency to get the callaway fixed.

Why not have a hoke around for a new shaft for the jpx. It really can change it into a completely different beast.

Yes I'm thinking about that but after hitting several 250+ yard drives with it last night I'm not sure it needs one! Not all of those wind assisted, btw.

If callaway don't replace the other one I'm thinking about taking both to a fitter to see which one can be fitted for the max distance.

250+ now that is impressive. Longer than the Tour average of Lydia Ko Morgan Pressel, Natalie Gulbis, Karrie Webb. Keep practicing there is a career out there for you on Tour.
