I didn't watch this but read about the result.

For those that did, what kind of strength of field was it?

For those thinking 2015 might be a flash in pan year, has this set down an early marker?

I think there is a tournament upcoming where Spieth, Rory and Day are all playing.
As I watch golf on pay per view these days the Masters was likely going to be my first spend of the year, but may be tempted by an earlier one.

It wasn't a big field but, as it was the Tournament of Champions, it featured a lot of the winners from last years PGA tour.

Rory was not there, and all in all it was just a bit over 30 players, but apart from that it was a pretty strong field. A lot of big names: Jason Day, Ricky Fowler, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson ... I could go on.

It was a decent field with 8 of the worlds top 15 players playing. Spieth was just different class. Not sure about Day but Spieth is playing the desert swing this year and will most likely be paired with McIlroy.

so nobody really.

I wouldn't have said it was a weak field, speith made it look easy from what i saw,
one of the putting stats i saw flash up was 100% inside 6 ft, he had over a 100 strokes obviously not missed one

Not the most exciting player to watch but sure gets the job done and has set the bar for the rest of the pack.

I watched a lot of it over the weekend, the guy is unreal and looks to have hit the ground running this year. Granted he seems to get a LOT of friendly bounces but he makes most of his clutch shots and holes putts from silly places.
That eagle on 18 at the end of the 3rd round summed it up for me, killer instinct right there.

Small field but you need to have won on the PGA Tour last year to get in so no mugs and lots of the big names were there.

Speith played great, he's got a(nother) big year ahead of him I think!

Echo this entirely.

He looked really sharp in all aspects of his game. He also seemed to drive the ball well too. That was often his nemesis last year.

Had to switch off, bored senseless watching Bordon Spieth (the death of golf), he is the dullest golfer ever.

I see what you mean but what do you expect him to do. He cant just hack it into the rough Seve style just for that wonder recovery TV moment
Folk talk about TV shots for years but the player really shouldn't have been in that position in the first place

It reminds me a bit of snookers Steve Davis in the 80's (and wouldn't surprise me if Spieth's as dominant) start by keeping errors out of your game seems to be his foundation and he backs it up with great approach shots and really good putting

Also think Patrick Reed might push on this year, his shots round the green were really impressive

I agree, I have a soft spot for him (see my Avatar!) and have been quite sensible about not betting on him out of personal attachment. However I think he's finally got a few things in order and will certainly be looking at him in future games on merit. His antics at the last Ryder Cup rubbed people the wrong way but at least he cared! He was more up for it than anyone, and his record reflected that.

I watched a lot of his round last night, anything but boring imho.

Hit lots of great shots, a few bad ones, pretty expressive at times, a genuinely nice person reaping the rewards of hard work and playing some great golf on a pretty fun course

Shame Koepka didnt get it going last night as that was the one thing missing

speith !
He is so dull but so bloody good. I just want him to miss a putt now and again for giggles.
Patrick Reed looked very very good. His putting was a bit off though but his iron play and chipping etc were as good as Spieths.

bored senseless you cant appreciate class golf then, JS - great role model, currently worlds best player, joy to watch - imo dullest golfers are kevin na, r ramsey and k bradley now these guys are dull and take a lifetime over each shot!

Only saw a bit of the highlights from day 3 (I think). His 3 iron on 17th (again I think) was a brilliant golf shot, hit it from 250, left it 20/30 yards short on purpose to run onto the green and very nearly holed it. Holed the putt for eagle.

Sooo boring.

imho - he is far from boring.

Class above a decent field last week. Driving superb appears to have gained a few more yards off the tee this year. Putting is unreal and his short game was sharp. He is playing in Abu Dhabi towards the end of Jan with Rory amongst others (don't thing Day will be there) but should still be a great tourney may also entice me to watch the ET!

I watched round 3 in the highlights and it struck me that Spieth was looking like he was level above anyone else in that round. Koepka, Reed and Kisner were the only players at a similar level and that was with Spieth making some big mistakes. And when you think he's looking that good and he's not hitting as many greens as others... Wow.

He really needs to speed up his play though. And he needs to stop trying to plough the turf in his 100+ (exaggerating for dramatic effect) PSR swishes - won't be long before we see people wrecking the fringes in the amateur game in the same way. ;)
