After his latest major triumph (2nd this season) is young Jordan now becoming the young starlet the American media seem to be craving as Tigers dominance has now ended?

Looks deserved at the moment. Good for Rory to have a decent sparring partner across the pond. Would be good to see a head to head in the Ryder cup.

Having never witnessed tigers dominance. I'm really looking forward to watching the era of Spieth. His putting is just unreal. He must feel confident from any range with that putter in hand!

Unlike Tiger he also seems a really nice Man.

Did anyone think that Tiger was anything other than a really nice man when he was 21!

But this thread isn't about that, congratulations to Spieth and I hope he, Rory and others continue to serve up this mornings entertainment

He was a knob, if I remember correctly, when he first appeared on the scene. Seems pretty grounded now and good in front of the camera, very composed.

I like when he said "If you're going to win them all then you have to win the first two!"

Was going to sY, you would be a lot better off having a double on the next 2 majors!!! A huge sucker bet they are offering!!

I must admit I'm really looking forward to St Andrews. I felt Chambers Bay killed it for me as far as a spectator. In terms of how they managed the course it was spot on. Speith is turning out to be quite a player and is pretty level headed about it. If he can win at Chambers Bay then I'm pretty sure he can do it anywhere. However, I guess he only won because DJ fell apart on the putting.

I think one of the US Golf mags had a whole edition dedicated to him before the Open, first time this has happened I believe. So yes, it is in the interests of the US media to have a home grown golfing sensation as say what you like about Tiger, he was box office and drew the punters in whenever he was playing.

Speith will never reach that level as Tiger's situation was unique, but they need someone to grab the attention of the public, so they will promote and market the hell out of him. And in some way so does the game if it is remain in the public's consciousness as much.

How so?

Speith is young enough, and certainly has the game to win many more majors. If he carries on at his current rate, why couldn't he eclipse Tiger?

I am talking from a point of generating interest and opening up the game to many more people. Tiger was a young black man in a mostly white persons sport, he was a marketing sensation for both his golfing ability and his 'story', he made golf kind of cool and he was box office for reasons on top of his golfing ability. For many years golf had the biggest and most well known sportsperson on the planet.

Speith may well get near or even surpass him with his golfing achievements, but he will never have as much impact on the game, generate as many column inches or get into the public consciousness as Tiger did. And I doubt anyone ever will the way the game is going. As look at how well golfers fare at sports personality of the year.

Lets not forget mcilroys putting this week . Tee to green he looked As good as he ever has , just didn't really get much going on the greens .

If they both turned up with their A game my money would definitely be on Rory.

Yes pretty much agree with that. Think Spieth is a class act, but when Rory is really on then at the moment he is head and shoulders above everyone else IMHO. Rory's play last night up until the last few holes was just exceptional and was an absolute pleasure to watch.

Personally would've liked to have seen Jason Day win it, particularly after his health issues, or Shrek (he'd got a great swing) but all credit to Spieth.

On the whole I agree.

For me, Speith has the potential to generate a significant amount of youth interest in the game. More than Tiger did.

Similar to the Rickie Fowler effect, but with more success.

There's something very media friendly about Speith. He conveys himself very well and never seems to dodge a question.
