So as I'm moving jobs my current club (burton on Trent) is suddenly out of the way so won't be able to make use of it as much as I would like. Anyway I will be passing the belfry on my way but have heard mixed reports with regard to it being a bit of a problem for members with the amount of visitors - not sure how true it is but I know there are a few members on here so first hand experience would be great. Other than that are there any others in the area that come highly recommended.

Thanks

Rich

I love the Belfry and wouldn't go anywhere else.

Thanks for the offer - but unfortunately will be at work and can't see booking my second day off for a round being appreciated as tempting as it is...
Don't get me wrong Burton is a great coarse and would certainly be renewing if it wasn't for the change of jobs, still not 100% decided as its still close enough to home to make use of it at weekends. It's a great club and sure you will enjoy it.

Played bot golf club yesterday in the open and enjoyed it. However it does make me realise how spoilt we are at the belfry.

great greens all year
No temp greens
no winter mats or mat tee's

Yep this what I think every time I play some where else.

Maxstoke Park is two minutes down the road, and one of the best course's in the area imo.
Yearly membership fee's are a giveaway considering the quality of the course and facilitie's.

joining fee of £900 and subs of £880 a give away? You must ne minted!

maxstoke imo is a top notch course, infact I have my lessons off neil mcewan and play maxstoke alot. However the greens seem to be fantasic or awefull and drains really bad in the winter. Neither are a problem at the belfry. in fact the belfry was at one point the only course in the area open after the bad rains this winter.

What facilities are these? A grass practise area no more than a 6 iron, practice bunker with no sand, a minute putting green and a practice net full of holes!

Yes the facility's at Maxstoke are crap that's why I don't use Neil for lessons anymore. Tiny range with no cover at all meaning most of my winter lessons where cancelled and the short game area looked shocking. The facility's at the Belfry are top notch along with the courses.

Joining fee is irrelevant, its standard fare at most private course's.
£880 is a bargain considering the quality of the course, far less than many other local private course's.
Clubhouse is fantastic, food and drink are top notch and very cheap.
To my knowledge Maxstoke was only closed on 2 sundays during the bad weather. On one of these sundays i was due to play there with a mate, after being told it was closed we tried, Belfry, Forest,Stonebridge,Windmill,Whitefields etc etc, the only course within 30 miles that was open was Kilworth Springs.
Its also renowned for the quality of the greens.
If i didn't have to face rush hour on the A45 to have an evening round mid summer, i'd join in a flash.

The belfry only closed due to snow this and last year and didnt loose 1 day due to rain Due to 300,000 being spent on drainage. As for 880 subs I agree that its a good deal for what your getting and if my playing partners lived closed i'd join in a flash. Maxstoke has only one thing that tops the belfry "less people" so you can just role up and play. But as for lay out, course condition, greens and facilities its the belfry hands down. Saying that, I am looking at leaving

Whats made you decide to leave ?

members tee times are 7am to 9. without consultation they changed that to 7 to 8.30. as i can only tee off between 8.50 onwards that puts me right out of luck. add the fact that we can only book upto 14 days in advance and the stay and play golfer can book 6 months in adavance means i can't get on to play when i like. and when i do finaly get on its 5 hr rounds. with the silly offers the belfry are chucking out the place looks like alton towers.
