Hi all,

I am considering applying to join a club not to far from me. The problem being in the application you need a proposer and someone to second my application. I don't know anyone that can do this for me, I have played the course as a visitor a couple of times and they are advertising for members and would like to join.

Has anyone had any experience of this before? And would this present a stumbling block if can get that part of the app filled in.

Thanks in advance

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
Most clubs nowadays will accept applications from people who don't know members. What they might do is ask you up for an informal chat with the Captain or Secretary just to see if you are a suitable candidate. After all if you had recently moved to a specific area and didn't know anyone how could you get someone to propose you then.
Give the club a ring and explain, I'm sure if they are actively looking for members there won't be any problems.

+1 to ring and explain the situation. If they want members then they will help you 'sort something out'.

If they insist on a proposed and seconder then go to the pro shop and ask them to try and pair you up with some other members so you can get your foot in the door.

Good luck mate and welcome to the forum, tell us about yourself... ;)

It's good to talk.

Unless the club is very fortunate they will want your membership money as much, if not more, than you want to join their club.

If you aren't too far away I think it's much better to pop into the office and have a quick chat with them. If your timing's lucky the captain or a committee member may be about and an intro at that stage could tick all the boxes for you.

I joined a club for the first time last Autumn. As me and my mate had never been members before we had to do an etiquette round with one of the committee. We played 9 holes one evening. It was pretty casual, more of him showing off how good he was to be honest. I played the worst I ever had scoring about 55 shots over 9 holes and he ended up trying to coach me, haha!

Although it all seems so formal its not! Good luck with the new course.
