Hi guys i used to play golf when i was younger, now i just Ive been practising for 2 weeks and getting better with nice straight shots and bought a good set of callaway irons and now i want to get serious.and get good with the game.
I live in a small town and there is not many places to practise locally exept the odd field to chip the ball to a net.
Now i found a golf club thats a 15-20 minute walk from me.
its a 9 hole course, but you can play it in a way that makes is 18 holes and it is a really tidy course, but it does not have a driving range all i see is a practise bunker and green and chipping area.bar,proshop.
I really want to improve so would joining this golf club actualy benefit me and is it actually worth it?
There is no joining fee and it says on the main website that there is a 30% discount on first years membership fees so the total cost is £266 a year.
the price for a single round is £10.
i only want to pay for a year and see what i can get out of it then move to a more difficult course when i improve.
Here is the website
take a look at the membership details

Thanks in advance

I'd suggest playing a few rounds before taking up membership. At £10 per round it's not a huge investment and you may be able to negotiate a refund/credit if you do take up membership.

Seems quite a good way to re-introduce yourself to golf. Shame no range(large investment required) but short game practice area is more important imo.

Seems like a good idea,i will go for a round, its a great course that goes up and across the mountain, the short game practise area is great and the bunker is really steep ,its all good fun,but im not sure if greenfees are included in the £266 membership.and if a small club like this will have any Hidden fees.

Ah you're from my neck of the woods! I'm from Goytre which isn't too far from Pontynewydd and I play up at Woodlake which I highly recommend. I haven't heard much about Pontynewydd golf club but our new club pro used to be the pro there. The only courses near to you I can think of are greenmeadow which is too expensive for what it is, Parc golf club isn't too far and is a decent little course. But Woodlake for me is better than them all, and it's only around a 15 minute drive from you

The area we live in got a few small clubs im considering joining this one as its not too far and having 9 holes would be great to start off with, greenmeadow is 18 and very challenging.

I'm guessing you've played the 9 hole course at Llanyrafon? That's a tricky little one but it's only a par 3 course. As you say, if you're after a cheapish 9 holer to play for your first year back to get back into the groove, then by all means Pontnewydd should be fine for you. If you find you really enjoy it after the year and have improved and want more of a challenge, head up to Woodlake and try it out. You won't find better views on a course in South Wales in my opinion, and the greens are great too. Good luck with whatever you choose mate.
