John Noakes - RIP

Yes, it's probably hard for people who weren't around in those days to grasp just what a big figure he was for us kids back then.

Always seemed like a top bloke to me too. More sad news.

"Get down Shep"....often mimicked in a Yorkshire accent seem to have made it into popular culture, thanks to John Noakes I think. With 2 channels to choose from back then there wasn't a lot on telly but after school Blue Peter was a must watch for our generation. Noakes had great 'likeability' as Louis Walsh would say. RIP

13 years on Blue Peter, nowadays they seem to go through 13 presenters a year.

His high altitude free fall jump made the record books. He was made for the job.

Climbing Nelsons Column for me was his greatest achievement.
I have a good head for heights being an ex fireman,i recall it was nervewracking.

Sad news.

Do you remember his trip on a toboggan down the Cresta Run? Health and Safety would have a field day with some of the stunts he did for Blue Peter...

Hahahaha, the baby elephant that stood on his foot, then dragged him off screen... Brilliant memories!

Such a boys own hero. Set a world record at the time for his free fall and apparently everything done without insurance as they couldn't get any. HID use to work with his son, Mark at a landscaping garden company and he had some great tales to tell
