I must admit I had heard of Jimmy but not Paul before the open but it seems they both have started their pro ranks quite well.

Jimmy must have got a lot of confidence from the Walker cup and as he plays at RND he also I would assume prefers links.

But quite interestingly when myself and Liverpool Phil played RND recently the 2 guys we played with didn't think he had the temperament for the pro ranks.
This of course remains to be seen but he has stated rather well.

Paul impressed at the open for 3 rounds and then the nerves got the better of him so I suppose the jury is still out on wether he can close a tournament out.
Nice to see some new blood in the pro ranks.

When I played their Easter meet SsS was 76 both rounds. He shot 66 67 for a -13 total. Incredible golfer.
Paul dunne didn't actually have a stellar amateur career like some do, great to see though.

Yeah they said that Jimmy was a bit hot headed at times and struggled to overcome bad holes

He was superb in the Walker Cup

Hopefully get to see them today on the coverage

Some say hot headed, others would say that it shows he cares and that he is young etc.

Would a young, up and coming player be dismissed as not having the temperament if he was American trying to make his way on the PGA Tour?

Whoa there - we are just saying what the members of his club were saying about him

I finished 2nd to him in that event*

*nett

I didn't see the nett bit until 2nd time of looking. Made me laugh that they let him win all the prizes.

He also shot 83 at East Devon in there men's open this year! Reasonable conditions that day too

Can remember when Justin rose turned pro after a good open. It seemed to go a bit tits up for him initially, but he's not doin bad now

Whats the first prize for Dunhill ? £500k ?

Now that would be a nice wee start to your pro earnings....

Dunne holing an ace on his first Pro round is also the thing of dreams

Fair play, and good luck to both of them.

Of course, I forgot that instantly gave them insight as to whether a player might makeit in the pro ranks or not.

Naturally,no hot-headed player has ever enjoyed decent success in the sport. How foolish of me to forget.

But surely when they have seen the player grow up they and including the pro at the place will have an insight into his mental and physical ability and able to give an informed judgement - they were also extremely proud of him and you could see them beaming when they talked about him - they werent "dismissing"

You could even see it in the Walker Cup that he has a fire in him and even with his birdie putt on the 18th it seemed a bit of a rush of blood

Hope he has a cracking career as he seems a likeable young man - something they also said about him.

It's not a crime to make comments about his potential career ahead

What the American and PGA bit has to do with anything I'll never know

Just as it isn't a crime to question their comments. I was under the impression that this is a forum where people are allowed to express their opinions. Obviously I am mistaken.

Surely to disagree with what they are saying would mean watching him to the same level they have ?

How do you know what his temperament is or how its effects his game to disagree with their statements ?

How does anyone know how a player will get on when they turn pro? There are no certainties. (That was my original point. Never mind)

And they never said it was a certainty ?!

They said

"Not sure how he will get on in the pro ranks as his temperament at times has let him down under pressure - said he is a bit hot headed at times and struggles to over come bad holes - but he is learning quickly and they hope he can overcome any mental issues as he is a wonderful golfer that they are massively proud off. They said the Walker Cup will make him a star"

That's it in a nutshell - so he wasn't dismissed not anything said with any certainty

With a couple of quid at 175/1 I am wishing Paul Dunne all the best in his first pro tournament :)

I thought he was mighty impressive round some tough links this year, good classic swing, some guys at the walker still looked amateurish, he didn't (IMO). And he seems a nice fella. Go Paul. :)

As much as I'm rooting for you, I think they both play Carnoustie tomorrow so could go backwards a little compared to the chasing pack.
