Jason Day

Yes very strange
Quite surreal
Not sure it was really necessary for him to do that
You'd think an agent, somebody from management team could have made announcement at media centre

Ridiculous that they put the poor guy in front of the cameras. Like anyone would of thought any less of him if his manager or agent read out a statement. Hope to see him back soon and hopefully some good news for his Mum in the weeks ahead.

Just me that thinks it a bit strange that she was diagnosed at the beginning of the year, has the surgery scheduled for Friday and he then shows up to play the event?

Just goes to show how much pressure there is for these guys to turn up.

Poor lad should not have to go through that regardless of how much money he has.

I get it. If he knew the surgery etc was happening, and it has been affecting his golf...then why take a spot. If he gave the reasons for not playing, no-one would think any less...and probably respect him for it. As it is, he has taken a spot that could have gone to someone else.

It's a cynical way of looking at it, but there is that viewpoint

My understanding is that it was his choice as he wanted to explain the reasons himself.

Sometimes when you are in that position what you want, or what you think you want, is normality. And then the reality of the situation kicks in and you realise that you can't actually do normality, however much you might want to.

Fair play to him for facing the press & fair play to Finau for the good grace with which he's taken it. I hope it all goes well for him & his mum.

Well having lost both of my parents to cancer, I can understand a little of what he's going through. I wish him all the best and hope his mother's surgery and aftercare all goes well.

From what I gather, he actually played the first five or six holes before he withdrew, so I guess he had every intention to play and then realized during the round that his heart just wasn't in it and he would rather be with his mum. I hope her sugery goes well and she will recover nicely. I like Jason, last but not least because he is not afraid to show his emotions in public.

As defending champion he probably felt he had to play or even his Mum might of told him to play, that we will probably never know. Hopefully he will return to the highs we all know he is capable off soon.
