Morning all

I believe there may be one or two on here that partake in the odd dram or two of "The Water Of Life!" (Aka - Whiskey!)

I was just wondering if any of you have any recommendations for a decent Japanese Whiskey?

I like a wee glass of Scotch or Irish Whiskey but not tried a Japanese one as yet - any recommendations? Some decent looking ones on The Whiskey Exchange.

I have tried a couple of the Suntory ones and one I cannot recall the name.
Very good stuff. Smooth and light, a bit like the lowland Scottish stuff.

One of those occasions when I would advise being quality guided by the price tag.

One of my favourites is the Suntory Hibiki 12yr old.. It's a blended, but it is exceptional (and is the equal of almost anything the Scots and Irish can put out at that price point)... It'll set you back about £45 a bottle so is definitely a sipping whisky...

Yamazaki 10 is a really great single malt if you can find it in stock. It sells pretty quickly.

Second the suggestion of Hibiki but the Yamazaki is even better.

Cant remember the name, but had one in Glasgow last year - the bottle is in the shape of a shogun, with his battle armour on it - that was spot on.

You wouldn't have a Yamazaki 50yr old knocking about would you? I'll give you £50 for it.... :D

I was given a bottle of Yamasaki single malt for Christmas and thought it was vastly overrated. I would go as far as to say I didn't like it. It is Scottish grain that they use anyway so why bother? Get the real thing. For the same outlay, buy two bottles of Highland Park instead of one bottle of a well marketed, currently fashionable Japanese imitation.

Am sure that the malt of the year 2015 was a Jap whiskey.

That said, don't know if my taste buds are packing up but since Christmas my PPs who are whiskey drinkers have got me supping it, and to be quite frank I have developed a taste for it. Just finished off 12yr old Glenfiddich today which was nice.

I went to a whiskey tasting evening recently where we had a snifter of six different ones. one was a blend and two were foreign, we had to rate each one and guess which were the foreign.

When they revealed what they were the one with the highest overall rating was an 'Amrut' Indian Malt. No one guessed the blend, it was one called 'Big Peat'
